My senior dog's sides are swollen. Is it an emergency if she's okay?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 12 lbs

Have an 11\ year old Cheweenie, her sides above her hips are swollen. She is eating, drinking water, and going to the bathroom okay. Gave her a Tramadol about 4 hours ago. Need to know if this is an emergency or can wait until tomorrow.

Because Dolce is eating, drinking, and going to the bathroom, it's not an emergency and can wait until tomorrow. If any of those things change or she starts having problems walking, then take her into an ER vet.

Usang sounds like she us very ill and I recommend you have her seen by a veterinarian immediately. She may be dealing with edema, but there could be many reasons for the edema ( including infection, tumours, trauma, endocrine or autoimmune disease, etc) and the fact that she is not eating and unwilling/unable to stand and walk indicates severe illness. Please have her seen by a vet right away so they can examine her and recommend diagnostics and treatment as needed to help prevent further suffering.

If she has a tooth abscess, there isn't much an emergency vet is going to be able to do (other than the pain medications and antibiotics she's already on), but if she's really uncomfortable or won't eat, then it may be worthwhile. Otherwise, continue with the medications and have her seen tomorrow at her regular clinic. I hope she's feeling much better after Thursday!!

It sounds like she is in pain. She could have a problem with her neck or back causing the pain. Since she is otherwise acting normal, it might not be an emergency but taking her to the emergency clinic tonight would give her some relief and make her feel a lot better. She may need an anti-inflammatory, pain medications, and a muscle relaxer. Hope she feels better soon!

What you are describing is not specific to any one condition, but is concerning. It may be worthwhile to take her to the vet sooner rather than later. Swelling like this for an unknown reason can indicate a systemic infection, poisoning, or autoimmune (self-attacking) disease. Something that comes on this suddenly and causes a dog to be in this much pain can quickly get worse, so it's best to get the problem diagnosed and treated as soon as possible. Hi. It sounds like daisy is in pain from something. I would recommend with this amount of pain and swelling, I would recommend getting her to the ER. It is hard in this situation to know what the cause it. It could be an injury, a muscular inflammatory condition, and infectious process, and many other possibilities. Good luck.

If I'm reading this correctly, the last time Nypsy ate was a few days before October 3rd, which means she has not eaten in about two weeks. That is extremely serious and I would consider this a medical emergency. She's slowly starving, and she needs veterinary care now. You need to take her into an ER vet right way. Best of luck.

Hello and welcome to Boop by Petco. A swelling on her stomach beside the incision is most likely a seroma, which is just a fluid filled sac. These resorb on their own over time. As long as the swelling isn't hot, painful, and she is acting normally, just get it checked in a few days. If she is acting weird or sick, and if the swelling is hot or painful, get her to the ER. It's probably an allergic reaction, as long as she doesn't seem lethargic and doesn't have any problem breathing, it's probably not going to be too serious. Most allergic reation of this sort resolve without treatment within 48 hours, but if the swelling is too bad I would recommend taking her to the emergencies to get an injection for the allergy.

If Abbey is bloated, that is a medical emergency because it will kill her without treatment. She has to see a vet immediately. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

Anabelle shouldn't wait until Monday to see a veterinarian. Not going to the vet may be riskier than transport if she has fluid buildup from her CHF. It may begin to affect her breathing which could make it a serious emergency. Legally, we are prohibited from recommending doses in the absence of a physical exam and a VPCR (veterinarian-patient-client relationship). If possible contact your veterinarian and ask, then medicate her as per your doctor and take her in.
