Why is my 4-year-old Lab not eating with black spots on her gums?

My Labrador's gums have black spots on both sides and she is not eating properly. She's a female dog of 4 years.

The black spots may be normal pigmentation of the gums. Dogs can have this color of gums in spots, but the not eating properly isn't normal. It makes me wonder if the black spots could be related to a dental problem. I'd have Silky seen by a vet in the morning.

Some dogs will lick excessively if they are nauseous. If your dog is vomiting or not eating well, this is likely the case. They will also lick or smack their lips if there is a bad taste in their mouth (ie. after giving a medication). Other dogs can lick as a nervous habit. If it persists, I would have your dog evaluated by his veterinarian and to make sure the black spot in the mouth is his normal pigmentation.

She is very cute! If she has had the dark spots for 8 years and they haven't changed then it is likely just normal pigmentation. She could be slowing down with age and may have a harder time after exercise, but if it gets worse then she really should be evaluated by a vet for a chest x-ray to make sure she doesn't have heart or lung disease.

My jack russels gums have small parts that are black , should i worry?
That depends. Many dogs naturally have areas of black gums. If however this is a new development or if you see other signs of disease, it could indicate a tooth infection or melanoma (a cancer). I recommend to play it safe and have Zoe examined since a physical exam is the best way to determine if this is pathological. I hope this helps.

Hello. I noticed that your dog is quite young. It is very likely that these are just normal areas of pigmentation, but perhaps reposting with a photo would help us. Dark areas in the mouth that are concerning are usually raised, may have associated inflammation or odor. Many breeds of dogs have normal areas of pigment in the tongue or gums. This could be normal pigmentation in the gums. You can keep an eye on it now that your are brushing Snoopy's teeth daily. If it begins to grow or change rapidly, then he should be seen by your veterinarian.

Poor Chloe! If her tongue and gums look white instead of pink, this is a medical emergency - she needs to be seen by a vet right away. This can be caused by internal bleeding, heart failure, or severe shock. The red spots on her body could be related to a bleeding disorder, or could be unrelated. The emergency vet can do blood work to help determine what's wrong and get her started on appropriate treatment right away.

is black patches on my jack russells gums anything to worry about ? he is 5yrs old fit and healthy these patches have only just appeared
I'm wondering if you intended to attach a picture - if not, attaching a picture could help us determine what these might be. If they are flat they could be normal areas of pigment, and sometimes dogs will start to have more patches of pigment on their skin and mucous membranes as they age. If they look more red or purple bruising is possible which would be a concern - if you think this might be bruising you should see a vet right away since it could be a sign of a bleeding disorder. If they are raised then they could be oral growths or tumors and you should have a vet take a look.

My dog is labrador breed. Age - 2 years. He is not eating anything except fruits. And always sleeping. And also is suffering from sebarrhoeic dermatitis. He is sleeping 20 hrs a day.
Oh dear! If Spike won't eat anything except fruits and is also acting lethargic (sleeping all the time), this is not normal - most Labs this age are very high energy and are always running and wanting to play. The dermatitis may be related to the same underlying illness, or could be a separate problem. I would recommend taking him to the vet as soon as you are able to - he/she can do blood work or other diagnostic testing if needed to help determine the problem and get him started on appropriate treatment.

My dog has a black spot where her canine presses into her gum. Is it a discoloration or should I be freaking out!!!
I would recommend getting your vet to check this closely, it appears in the pictures that the lower canine is making contact with the gum and chronic irritation can cause inflammation, scarring and occasionally tumour changes

Those black spots look like comedones (aka: blackheads). I suggest you use this shampoo that contains benzoyl peroxide. Lather the affected areas (no need to do the whole dog), let it sit for 10-15 minutes and then rinse throughly. Do this every 2-3 days until they are gone. Then use this shampoo 1-2 times every month for maintenance. ( https://www.allivet.com/p-7130-oxiderm-shampoo-ps.aspx ) The loss of appetite is not related to the comedones. If she won't eat then you need to get her to your vet for an exam. If she is not spayed it may be due to her heat cycle. I would suggest spaying her.
