Why is my dog suddenly lethargic, eating poop, and licking paws?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 1 year and 2 months old | 15 lbs

My dog has been sleeping ALOT more then normal. He has recently started trying to eat poop! Not sure if related but he is licking his paws quite a bit as well. He had a stool sample done maybe two weeks ago and that was fine. the only thing different is added homemade meal topper to his food.

This lethargy can be a sign of illness, but unfortunately it's a very general sign of many ones. Eating poop is so common in dogs. Licking his paws can be due to allergy. To keep Teddy from eating poop, pick up his poop right after he goes to prevent his access to it. Have him seen by a vet for the lethargy and paw licking.

It sounds more like she is sick and not depressed. Eating a lot, lethargy and throwing up and not good signs. They are non-specific signs; meaning there are many different ailments that can cause these signs so I cannot tell you what is going on. She needs a vet exam and maybe some blood testing/x-rays. Licking the paws is probably an allergy and not related to the other symptoms. I suggest you get her to a vet for an examination.

Unfortunately, there isn't much for you to go on from this description. Increased water intake can signify many different changes, and the same is true for the lethargy you're describing. Going to the vet for a check up would certainly be ideal, but since that's not an option right now, I'd recommend: -Making sure she always has access to water at all times, and take her out more frequently if she's having accidents - Soaking her feet in epson salt bath for 5 minutes a day to help with whatever is irritating them - Think about any toxins she could have gotten in to, or changes in her diet or treats you could change back And if she's not getting better, work towards getting her to the vet as soon as possible. I'm sorry Moose doesn't seem well! Lethargy is a very general sign of illness in dogs, and can be caused by many things including systemic illness, inflammation, infection, or injury. Given that he has eaten this morning and the symptoms just started, I would keep an eye on him for the next 48-72 hours. Should the lethargy continue over this time period, or he develops other signs such as anorexia, vomiting, and/or diarrhea, I would take Moose into the vet for a health check.

Yesterday my dog defacated in the lounge and started to eat it until I walked in and stopped her. She's been acting very needy lately (constantly in need of attention) which isn't like her. I don't know what's wrong with her.
Any sudden change in behavior from the normal can be a sign of a medical illness, and I would have Luna seen by a vet today. Eating feces can be a sign of intestinal parasites in dogs, and if she had a heavy burden of them, that would cause her to feel very unwell. A health check by the vet can diagnose if there is a medical cause behind her behavior, and can treat her for it.

If he is otherwise fine, I recommend you keep a close eye on him for now. Hi, and thanks for your question. This is a quite generic but concerning sign. Differentials are many, from gastrointestinal diseases (infection/inflammations often dietary related) to any disease that can spread systemically (causing lethargy for example) like infection, and anything that can cause pain/discomfort. The approach must be logic, starting from offering different kind of food. A check up is needed if inappetence and other signs last for more than 24hours. If it is just from changing his diet then this should stop very shortly. However, if this is due to something else such as pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, among other possibilities then this is unlikely to resolve and a veterinary evaluation would be indicated for further assessment and treatment. Nausea can occur from many conditions such as foreign body ingestion and obstruction, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. This may be something temporary. However, if this continues, I recommend that you have Shadow evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. This will likely require bloodwork and abdominal imaging in terms of diagnostics. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least your veterinarian could start him on medications to make him feel better. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to prevent dehydration. This is something that is typically differentiated initially with an exam and basic diagnostics. It is highly unlikely that he develops a systemic infection from the skin infections that could cause his death. Lethargy and inappetence can be caused by conditions such as gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, or even secondary to discomfort caused by the allergies and skin infections. It definitely warrants an evaluation by your veterinarian to check for these possibilities. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing his allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies.
