My cat sneezes occasionally. Could it be allergies? When to worry?

My cat is sneezing occasionally throughout the day, at maybe one or two sneeze intervals. He is eating fine and still playful but I am worried. I do not see any ulcers anywhere and his ears looks clean. Can this be an allergy ? At what point do I take him to a vet?

What a handsome boy Goliath is! I'd keep an eye on him for now. If the sneezing increases, or he develops other signs such as cough, nasal discharge, eye discharge, lethargy, or a loss of appetite, then I would have him seen by a vet. Likely there is something in the environment irritating his nasal passages.

Hi there. If the sneezes produce clear fluid only, and she is eating and drinking, playful, etc., then I wouldn't be too concerned. If it proceeds to lethargy, yellow discharge, decreased appetite, etc., then she would need to be seen.

My cat has been sneezing a decent amount lately. He doesn’t have any boomers or anything and is acting normal (getting into everything and eating a lot :) ). Should I be worried? He has been acting like his playful self, just sneezing a lot.
Thank you for using Pet Coach. I don't think I would be overly concerned at this point. I suggest you think about the cleaning products/chemicals you use around the house to see if maybe that is causing his sneezing. If you have carpets you may want to have them cleaned to remove any allergens. Cats are close to the ground so if there are strong smells/chemicals/dust/debris, etc present they may be irritating him. I would only be worried if he was acting sick. If you notice any abnormalities like not eating, nasal discharge, eye discharge, vomiting, etc then I would get him to your vet for an exam.

My cat started sneezing multiple times a day just over a month ago, but there is no discharge, nasal growth, he eats and drinks as normal and still annoyingly cuddly. (So no change). He's also an indoor cat. I have been packing due to the two of us
It could be just mild nasal irritation. It coukd also be due to environmental factors like dust. Rarely we can see certain slow rising disease of cats such as nasal tumors. However we usually see discharge like mucus or blood. If you ever see a discharge, your cats attitude changes or the sneezing increases in its frequency I would consider having your veterinarian do an exam.

This could be an allergy and it could be something causing irritation in the nasal passages. It is also possible that Shearer has a viral infection such as the herpes virus, which is common in young cats. I would keep an eye on this and most of the time these viral infections self resolve. If there is any green eye or nose discharge, then I would take him in to be seen by a veterinarian.

Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Nikolai. Yes, it is normal for a cat to sneeze, it could simply be something in the environment causing him so irritation. I would be concerned if he is sneezing frequently or he has other signs such as coughing, congestion, runny nose, runny eyes, lethargy, or anorexia. I would not be worried unless the sneezing becomes a constant problem. Could be an allergy or the start of an upper respiratory. As long as she is eating and drinking OK and there is no nasal/ocular discharge I would not be overly concerned. There is nothing you should give her for now. Hope this helps. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This is likely allergies to something in the environment. Your veterinarian could consider something like an antihistamine to be given on an as needed basis. Check with your veterinarian who knows her medical history to make sure that this is still a good idea based on previous or current medical history. He sneezes three or four times a day. Has NO discharge from nose and has ample energy. His appetite is ok one day and low another. Does he have a cold? Should I take him to vet? This has been going on for about 5 days now with no change.
If sneezing is the only sign you can probably monitor for a couple more days. Sneezing in cats may be upper respiratory infection (viral or bacterial), nasal foreign body (grass can get trapped in nose) or nasopharyngeal polyps. If he stops eating has any discharge or the sneeze lasts longer than a week total I would recomend a vet visit.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Charlemagne! Increased and frequent sneezing in kittens is most commonly viral, usually herpes. Cats can become chronically infected, carriers or clear the virus. As long as he is eating, playful and the nasal discharge is clear he should resolve the infection with in 2 weeks. If the discharge changes to yellow or green or becomes thicker he should see your Vet to see if he needs antibiotics. He should be seen if he lethargic and not eating well as he may have a fever. Sneezing is a very vague sign in the sense it only means there is irritation to the nasal passages. So you are completely right in not jumping to the conclusion of an infection. It is more likely due to an irritant such as dust or pollen, or even cold air annoying the sensitive tissue. Do keep an eye as it could be the start of a touch of cat flu, but these things tend to be viral anyway.
