Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 3 days old | 40 lbs
My dog has a white growth on the side of his tongue. It just appeared a few days ago. What is it? How long will it stay? Is he ok to play with other dogs?

This could be a canine oral papilloma. I would have Nigel seen by a vet to have this diagnosed and treated. You need to keep him away from other dogs for now, as they are contagious. Typically these do not need treatment, and can take 1-5 months to go away on their own.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be a benign or malignant growth. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Good luck!
