My pregnant dog is nesting, restless, and not eating. Is she in labor?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 4 months old | 45 lbs

Today is Wednesday. Monday was day 63 of seeing heat cycle. My females temp was 98.3 and 98.7 monday. Tuesday was back up too 99.6 and this morning its 100.7. Shes been restless until last night and this morning, nesting and pacing of course. Milk has been in for a week. She hasnt ate since last Friday, (other than just a little bit). Should I be worried or just give her a little more time?

If it's her first litter, pregnancy can sometimes go a little long. I would continue to monitor her closely until then to see if she does go into labor within the next few hours. If you think labor is close, or that Paisley has been in active labor without results (actual pushing, visible contractions, etc), or she is getting very weak/lethargic, then it would be time to take her to a vet.

Gestation is around 9weeks so yes, she would be due from first week in September. If you are concerned, a vet check would help rule out any complications such as fever or infection which could cause similar signs but if she was eating well up until yesterday i would continue to monitor for a couple of hours and try not to disturb her unduly
