My cat ate Italian dressing. Is it toxic if he's breathing heavy?

Hello my cat accidentally swiped a piece of lettuce off of my plate with Italian dressing on it, he has been eating his food but he is breathing a bit heavier now

This may cause a bit of stomach upset for Riley, which could be why he's breathing a bit heavier at the moment. Italian dressing does contain garlic and onion, both of which are toxic to cats, but he won't have consumed enough to cause any problems. I'd keep an eye on him for now. If he starts vomiting, has diarrhea, stops eating, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, is very lethargic, and/or starts open mouth breathing, he needs to see a vet immediately. Italian dressing often contains onion or garlic, which can be toxic to dogs. Toxicity signs can be visible even after 24-48 hours since ingestion. The safest (and recommended) option is to take her to your veterinarian for a check-up. If this is not an option at this moment, please withhold food for the next 4-6 hours and then start feeding back again with some chicken and boiled rice in small portions every 4-6 hours. If the signs persist or she is displaying other signs such as diarrhea, lethargy, inappetence or more vomiting, I would suggest taking her to the nearest ER right away.

You are correct that Jeje's respiratory rate is higher than normal, but it's good that he's breathing with his mouth closed. I would be very concerned if he was opening mouth breathing, as that's a sign of respiratory distress in cats. He may not be feeling well at the moment leading to the increased respiratory rate. Because I can't see him in person, I can't say for certain he will be ok, so it's certainly fine to take him into a vet now for a health check. Otherwise, you can monitor him, and if his respiratory rate is still high in the morning, I would have him seen by a vet.

It is likely Steve did not ingest a toxic dose. Monitor for lethargy, pale gums, difficulty breathing or exercise intolerance for the next 24-72 hours. You may see some minor stomach upset which, in the absence of other symptoms, can be managed with a short fast followed by a bland diet fed in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. If he develops any of the other symptoms, have him seem by your veterinarian.

Since Montie has IBD, it could be this will cause a problem. I'd keep a close eye on him and if he gets any concerning symptoms like vomiting or a loss of appetite, take him into a vet immediately. I hope this helps!

It sounds like Chassi needs to be examined by the veterinarian quickly. Changes in respiratory pattern in cats can indicate an emergency and there's not way to tell without an exam. Heavy breathing could be due to pneumonia, asthma, a tumor in the lungs or fluid in the chest. She will need a physical exam and likely radiographs. I recommend to play ti safe and have her examined quickly. I hope this helps.

The toxic dose for garlic in cats is about 1 gram per kilogram of body weight in cats, where a gram is equivalent to approximately 1/3 teaspoon of minced garlic or 1/12 teaspoon of garlic powder. If Sapphire weighed 1 kilo and consumed 1/3 tsp. of minced garlic or 1/12 tsp. of garlic powder, that would be a toxic dose. I suspect she weighs more than that and did not consume that much, so she should be fine. Garlic flakes do not seem to have any effect. If she is very small and you do feel she consumed a toxic dose, seek veterinary emergency care immediately. Regardless, monitor for any gastrointestinal symptoms, weakness, rapid heart rate (greater than 200 bpm), or pale gums. Seek veterinary medical care as needed, but I suspect she will be fine!

I would take Jerry to your veterinarian as soon as you can. I'm concerned that his breathing may not be related to the diabetes or cat litter, but could be something wrong with his heart or lungs. It is not normal for cats at rest to breathe more than 40 times per minute. If that is the case then he needs to be evaluated.

Hi there! It's possible that this could be allergy related, especially if Perry sounds congested when he breathes or if he is having any sneezing or nasal discharge. The breathing changes could also be due to a respiratory infection, bronchitis, feline asthma, or even a more serious problem such as heart disease or a tumor in his chest. Since some of these problems can be quite serious, I would recommend taking Perry to the vet for an exam as soon as you are able to. The vet can listen to his heart and lungs, and may recommend chest x-rays or other testing if needed to help diagnose the problem.

I wouldn't worry about this. There's no way there is enough garlic powder in one slice of pepperoni to cause toxicity in an adult cat. As long as she is acting normal, I don't see a need to take her to the vet. I hope that helps and all is well with Mirz.

I would not be concerned if those were the only ingredients, Otis should be fine. He may get a slight amount of gastrointestinal upset. You may notice some mild vomiting or diarrhea.
