Why is my dog vomiting and pooping blood after a new probiotic?

I gave my dog probiotic 11p.m. last night, Zesty Paws for the first time after his regular food, he started soft stool, then he pooped with gas every 3 hours, he vomited all food out, I gave him activated coal with water, but vomiting didn't stop, he didn't sleep all night vomiting and pooping soft, 8 a.m. he popped water with gas, the color was black and reddish, it can be black from activated coal, but he doesn't want to eat, the other dog ate the same and seems OK.

Poor pup! Yes the black color of his poop could be from the activated charcoal, but the red in his poop indicates blood. If he was pooping all night, he could have irritation in his intestinal tract, causing the blood. That being said, blood in the poop is always concerning. Add onto it he's been up all night vomiting and pooping. I'm worried that he's dehydrated from all of this. He sounds pretty sick and I think he needs to see a vet immediately. My advice is to take him into a vet now to get this diagnosed and treated. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

This does sound very concerning. Black stool can occur secondary to digested blood, and blood in vomit can be either bright red if fresh or look like coffee grounds if digested. This can happen if there is a foreign object or mass in the stomach, if there is an ulcer, if there is kidney disease or pancreatitis or if certain toxins are ingested. I would recommend seeing a veterinarian as soon as you can. They may recommend blood work and x-rays to start and can start some symptomatic medication as well.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I noticed in one of those pictures that his stool is really diarrhea and is black (which usually means a sign of bleeding). Vomiting and diarrhea can occur secondary to conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, dietary indiscretion, parasites, among other possibilities. In addition, black stools can be indicative of bleeding into the small intestine or stomach which can happen secondary to an ulcer for instance. Bloody urine can be the result of an infection, stones, tumors, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. At the very least they can start him on medications to make him feel better and check his hydration status. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to prevent dehydration. It sounds as Jet is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

My dog just pooped this out. Please help
This looks like a clump of blood probably dark/black as there may digested blood inside. These signs could be compatible with an inflammation infection of the gastrointestinal system and surrounding organs (like pancreas and liver). A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is immediately essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Poor guy! From your description, it definitely sounds like something is wrong. Vomiting dark black material and dark tarry stools are often signs of bleeding in the stomach or intestines, which can be extremely serious. Not eating and not wanting to walk down the stairs are vague signs that indicate he is in pain or not feeling well. I would strongly recommend taking your dog to the vet today for an exam, since this sounds like quite a serious problem. He/she can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help diagnose the problem and get him started on appropriate treatment.

Vomiting blood is serious. The GI upset could be due to many conditions including eating something she shouldn't have, bacterial over growth, parasites (worms and giardia), poison, a bleeding disorder, pancreatitis, cancer or intestinal blockage. I recommend to have your pup examined by the veterinarian today. Try to remember to take in a stool sample. The doctor will check her for parasites and bacterial over growth and other diagnostics may be recommended as well. She needs the correct diagnosis in order to receive appropriate care. Hello there! I'm sorry to hear that Red is sick. I'm very worried about him as dark, tarry vomit and stools are very suspicious of gastrointestinal bleeding. I am even more concerned as you mentioned he ate some wood chips - while it's possible that the chips have just irritated his intestinal lining, it is also possible that he has an intestinal perforation (a hole in the intestines), which can be deadly. I'm glad to hear that his abdomen feels normal and he has pink gums, but it's still possible that he has bleeding going on, and he should get treatment for this as soon as possible. I strongly suggest bringing Red to an emergency veterinary hospital for treatment. At the very least, he probably needs some rehydrating fluids as he's likely dehydrated from all the vomiting. At the vet's office, he'll get a physical exam, and they will probably want to do some abdominal x-rays to look for any major bleeding. Poor Charlie! You did the right thing by taking him into the vet. It is likely that he had a cut from hitting himself, and that would cause the bright red blood in the vomit. The black color of his feces indicates digested blood, so if he had blood in his stomach from the injury, it passed through his GI tract leading to the black color of his feces. He may be painful as well from hitting his mouth, causing him to be more lethargic than usual. Now it is concerning he is breathing funny, but that can also be pain related. Keep an eye on him tonight, and if he's still showing these same symptoms in the morning, take him back into the vet. Do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Hi there, he may be having some gastric upset due to the antibiotics, but I would encourage you to call your vet to see if you could maybe stop the diclofenac and finish the cephalexin. If you are not giving your medications with a meal they can cause gastric upset even more, as they will increase gastric acid production. Pepcid (famotidine) is usually considered safe to use in dogs-you will have to call your doctor for a dosage or find it online as we cannot legally give you a dosage due to the nature of our company and having not seen your pet in person. However-and blood in the stool (I am assuming this is digested blood in your black feces) and not being able to eat without vomiting to me represents something I would personally encourage you to seek emergency veterinary care for. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Diarrhea and vomiting can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. When there is evidence of black stools that can be a sign of gastrointestinal ulceration for example. recommend that you have Pepper evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment.
