How to get dog prednisone for allergies without frequent vet visits?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 49 lbs

Our dog has been taking Prednisone for an allergic reaction that she occasionally has. She winds up needing it about once every three months we have been having to go to the vet and pay for an appointment and also pay for the medication each time. Is it possible to get it here cheaper?

Unfortunately no. It is illegal for us to prescribe medication from this site, we need to see Dixie in person in order to prescribe medication. You will need to continue to see your vet in order to get her prednisone. Best of luck.

Hello, and thanks for using Boop by Petco. Poor Kylo, that skin looks pretty uncomfortable! Unfortunately in order to prescribe medication we are legally required to have examined the animal to establish a “vet-client-patient relationship” so we cannot call in prescriptions with online consults. You will need to touch base with your regular vet to get Kylo’s medication.

What would be considered as a short term treatment with 1mg prednisolone for allergies flare up ?
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Steroid use, dosing and the taper needs to be decided upon by a Vet that has examined the pet. We can not prescribe drugs or tell you how to use a drug because we legally are not allowed to. I am sorry. I recommend calling your Vet and asking them since they have a legal relationship with you. Every year in August my dog starts his allergies with his itchy skin and eyes,,if it gets too bad my vet will order prednisone orally which does help. But can I ward off some of the symptoms with Allegra or Zyrtec?
Unfortunately, by law it is illegal for the experts at Boop by Petco to recommend using any drug, including OTC drugs, without seeing the animal in person first. That's because doing so requires a veterinary client patient relationship which cannot be achieved via an internet forum. In addition, the experts cannot say for certain if a specific drug is safe for Dakota. I would give your vet a call to discuss if using an anti-histamine in addition to his prednisone is safe for him. Best of luck.

Unfortunately we cannot give prescriptions on this site. It's illegal for us to do it without seeing the dog in person. You will have to see if there is another vet locally where you can get the prescription, but I don't think it's very likely. This isn't something vets recommend doing because of the side effects of that medication.

how much predisone do you give a 6 or 10 dog for allergies? I have some for my bigger dog & they are showing the same loss of hair and skin issues/ which is not mange. I have been giving the smaller dogs benadryl but it is not helping.
Sorry, we cannot advise about medication dosage for your dog. This is against the law and potentially dangerous without having seen the dog before. While it may seem similar to your other dog, there may be something else going on, or a condition that precludes the use of steroids. It's actually odd for them to both have the same problem and does make me suspicious of mange. Even if they tested negative before, I reccomend bringing taking them back for another test, because it's possible that it was missed before. If they do have mange, then prednisone can make the condition worse.

Yes, legally the vet is allowed to do this. Prescription medications require an exam, even if the cat has been on the medication long term. Typically long term medications require a yearly exam, but a vet may request exams more often depending in the medication. You absolutely cannot get steroids anywhere but a vet, and if Roxy needs a refill, you need to find a way to afford the exam and the meds. There is no other option.
