Poor Boo. Yes it could be he has allergies or asthma, but it could also be a respiratory infection or something more serious like heart disease. Heart disease can be very common in senior cats. I would have him checked out by a vet for this issue quite soon, and I recommend giving his vet a call now to make him an appointment. I hope this helps!

She could definitely start having asthma at her age. I would recommend having a vet listen to her heart and lungs, and take a chest x-ray. They can send the x-rays to a be read by a radiologist if you'd like a second opinion. The treatment for asthma is usually steroids and inhaled broncodilators. You would need a prescription for those things. So unfortunately, there isn't much you can do totally alone, but it does sound like she needs some help.

Yes, wheezing could indeed be a sign of asthma. But it is also possible that she has an upper respiratory infection. Either disease is relatively easy to treat once diagnosed. Your vet will want to do xrays if he suspects asthma. URIs are usually treated with antibiotics. My cat often makes a coughing and wheezing noise. She seems to be doing it more lately.In the past one vet said it was a heart condition and another one said post nasal drip. She is a 5 year old spayed kitty.
Coughing and wheezing in a younger cat most commonly occurs as a result of asthma, but could also be related to underlying allergies, masses in the chest, or heart disease (although cats with heart disease do not commonly cough). At this point, I do recommend taking your cat back to the vet for another exam and chest x-rays to try to help differentiate (this is not always completely conclusive) between these causes. My cat has maybe once a day where she gets up from where she is calmly laying and starts wheezing/coughing. This has been going on for about a week with no vomit or discharge, and never happens during or following playtime. Weve lived in a new state
I would be very concerned about asthma. It often happens when they have inhaled something that causes inflammation if the lungs. It could be related to something in your new area that she previously wasn't exposed to. I would also think about anything in the house that might irritate her lungs such as air fresheners, smoke or anything with a strong fragrance. I would recommend taking her to your veterinarian where they will most likely do a chest x-ray to look at her heart and lungs.

Fur is not likely to cause breathing problems but it will cause hairballs. Wheezing is most commonly caused by asthma, allergic bronchitis, being extremely over weight and heartworm disease. I recommend to have Reggie seen by his veterinarian. The doctor will need to do radiographs to be able to see the lungs and heart and know what is going on. My cat has been having some issues breathing. We have him on an antibiotic from vet. He has taken three doses but seems to get really bad once evening hits. Can this be asthma?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Breathing issues can be a sign of many conditions such as pneumonia, bronchitis, heart disease, asthma, among many other possibilities. This could certainly be due to asthma which is not treated with antibiotics but rather it is treated with steroids and other medications. Since he has not improved, I recommend that you have Oscar reevaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics to be performed include thoracic radiographs and bloodwork. Treatment would be dependent on findings. Good luck and have a good night!

Hello, So I have my boy he's a 16 year old Devon Rex he is sleeping lots loosing hair and scratching and is really weezing and almost choking when he eats and is louder than normal. He is over weight but always has been and has not gained anymore . h
He could have multiple things going on here. Itching is a sign of allergies, so I would first check for fleas (they leave behind tint black pepper looking specks on the skin). The purple bumps may be an inflammatory reaction or actual masses, so have these tested through your vet. The wheezing is the most concerning symptom that he has, as this can be early signs of asthma, bronchitis, a mass (an enlarged thyroid) pressing on his airway, or an upper respiratory infection. I would encourage you to schedule an earlier appt for Tobby to address the wheezing as soon as possible. Cats with airway issues are consider unstable and should seek medical attention right away because the lungs are their stress organ, so that means that if they are not feeling well then the lungs can get worse very quickly. I'd be concerned that Sock may have feline asthma. It would be worth a trip to the veterinarian to have X-rays done again on Sock to look for asthmatic changes. Asthma in cats is fairly common and can be treated with both inhalant medication and oral medications. An Aerokat inhaler can be ordered to help administer inhalant medications if necessary. Your veterinarian can also ensure that Sock is not experiencing another upper respiratory infection. I'd also recommend eliminating the use of perfumed cleaners, or perfumed or dusty litter types as these things can aggravate airway disease in cats. Try to change air filters regularly and use an air purifier to cut down on allergens. Thanks for using Boop by Petco!
