My dog vomited for 24 hours, possibly from raccoon poop. Should I go to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shorthaired Pointer | Female | spayed | 4 years and 8 months old | 50 lbs

My dog has been vomiting on and off for about 24 hours, had a stool and a little bit of water and has peed. I am worried she may have consumed raccoon poop. It does seem to be slowing down a resolving a bit. But should I take her to the vet for any thing more severe?

Whenever a dog has been vomiting for 24 hours or longer, it is time to see a vet. While it's good to hear that Ruby's vomiting seems to be slowing down a bit, I'm concerned about potential dehydration from the vomiting, especially if she's only had a little bit of water. Because I can't say if she will be ok or not without seeing her in person, I think it's best you take her into a vet today to get checked out just to be safe. I hope this helps!
