Dog neuter incision bleeding and swollen on day 4. When to see a vet?

Day 4 after dog neuter and his incision is bleeding a kind of protruding in a spot. Is this okay or should I take him to emergency vet?

Thank you for the picture of Apollo's incision, it's very helpful. I agree the incision does look a bit swollen and red, and I'm concerned there is some bleeding. Please feel the skin area, and if it's warm as well, he needs to see an ER vet immediately. Otherwise, wait until the morning and take him in then. Should the area keep swelling during the night, it keeps bleeding, and/or he becomes lethargic, then rush him into an ER vet right away. I hope this helps!

There is quite a lot of swelling/bruising here which is not uncommon but the damage to the wound appears minor and could be monitored overnight. Keep him confine and apply a muzzle or Elizabethan collar to prevent further injury. If blood loss increases to a steady flow he should be seen urgently

Poor Quentin! From what I can see in the photo, it does look like he has some swelling and discoloration of the scrotum, and a small amount of bruising around the incision site itself. These issues can sometimes happen after a neuter - they're more common if the dog has been too active (I know this is hard to avoid sometimes!), but sometimes they just happen as a result of the surgery itself, just like post-op swelling and soreness in humans. If your pup is still eating and drinking normally, and seems alert and otherwise okay apart from being sore and reluctant to move around much, then it would be reasonable to wait until Monday to have him checked out by your regular veterinarian. Do not give any over-the-counter pain medication, as there are no OTC human options that are safe for use in dogs. In the meantime, you can use a warm compress on the area (a washcloth soaked in warm water, and then wrung out) for 5-10 minutes once or twice a day if he'll let you - this can help some

Had our fur baby neutered on thursday he seems to be in alot of pain. And think he now has a infection
The site does appear reddened and swollen. This could be post operative issues or signs of infection. Since he is painful, he should be rechecked by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER. A vet can diagnose infection and treat the pain if indicated. Place an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent licking if he doesn't already have one on. Keep him warm and as stress free as possible until you see the vet.

After a week, this is how my dog looks at his neuter. Is this normal? Are his testicles swollen? Is his wound closed? He keeps rubbing his cone on the wound to scratch it.
His incision looks a little red and there is still some swelling in his scrotum. I recommend to call your vet and have Sammy rechecked. The doctor may change his cone to a soft collar or may send you home with a cream to apply. If the doctor is concerned with infection, Sammy will get an antibiotic. The swelling in the scrotum will decrease with time and is not uncommon in a more mature male. Continue to have him wear the cone at all times and keep his activity significantly restricted. My dog was neutered 12 days ago and was able to get to his stitches today. Our vet who administered the neuter is closed today and tomorrow. He completely removed the top suture and appears to have opened the bottom of the incision. He has an appoint
Thank you for the picture of his incision, it's very helpful. After 12 days, the incision should be fully healed, and in the picture, it doesn't look red, swollen, or infected. There is an area in the middle that looks a little open, and that may be from him pulling at the stitches, but it doesn't look fully open. I would put a cone back on him to keep him from pulling at the stitches more, and take him to a regular vet if you can on Monday to get the rest of them removed. There isn't a need for an emergency vet at this point in time. If you cannot get him into another vet on Monday, you can wait until Tuesday to see his normal vet as long his incision doesn't become infected or open up more. Again, keep a cone on him to keep him for getting at the stitches. I hope this helps!

Hi, Thanks for using Boop by Petco. From your question I think you are saying the Tua was neutered 3 days ago and he was cryptorchid (meaning one testicle had not descended in to the scrotum). They then had to go into his abdomen to find the other testicle. From your picture the incision appears closed. A little red which is ok. If Tua is acting fine then you can try warm compressing the incision twice daily. Make sure he is STRICTLY rested meaning no running, jumping, leash walks only and not licking the incisions. Use and E-collar or a t-shirt. If the incision is still leaking or gets worse then take him to the Vet Good luck!

If there were stitches in place it's possible they may have torn since the area looks open (it's hard to tell from a photo alone). If the are is oozing or stitches are obviously torn open I would bring Hank back to your vet for care. Otherwise, keeping the area clean and dry can help prevent infection. Hank should also be on strict kennel rest and leashed-walks only along with an Elizabethan (cone) collar to prevent him from pulling any stitches until healed.

That does look a bit concerning with the blood, and if Agno is hunching or acting painful (with the quick steps and then sitting), I'd worry that it is bothering him. I would use a warm washcloth compress for 10-15 minutes to help reduce any pain or swelling and also to clean up the area gently so you can see if there is extra discharge or swelling. If this causes him pain, there is discharge that is discolored, green, or yellow, or the site is opening back up again, a trip to the vet is best to treat any infection and make sure the surgery site is healing properly. Until you can get to the vet, strict kennel rest (leashed walks only) is best to help reduce pain and prevent any open wounds from tearing further.

Hi, I think the gap between the edges of the wound is very small. As long as you prevent Buster to groom the area, it will be fine to have him checked over tomorrow. The area looks a bit swollen, has it always been like this.? I think if he is well in himself, eating and drinking etc you can wait until Monday safely and then have his wound and area checked over. Hello my dog was neutered last Thursday I’m worried he’s hemorrhaging what should I do
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Chulo. Hemorrhaging is a life threatening surgical complication that typically occurs relatively soon after the surgery. The patient becomes weak, pale and very lethargic. If he has any of these signs, then you need to seek emergency care right away. If he is eating, drinking and acting like himself, then it is more likely that he has some post-surgical swelling and bruising of the scrotum. The incision site itself appears to be healing well. I recommend following up with his veterinarian to ensure he does not require additional treatment. For example, some dogs that are too active will require mild sedatives to keep them quiet and allow their body to heal. I hope this information helps!
