Why is my dog licking paws and panting heavily? Should I worry?

Hi I’m just a bit worried about my dog he’s constantly licking his paws and today he has been panting very heavily and in his sleep aswell it doesn’t sound normal how fast he’s panting just a bit worried

I can understand being worried about Buddy. It sounds like there are a few things going on with him. Constantly licking his paws could be due to something such as allergies, an injury, infection, parasites, anxiety, or even boredom. The heavy panting could be due to heat, pain, or a severe medical problem like heart disease. I'm not sure how old he is, but heart disease can be a common problem in older dogs, and when the heart isn't pumping properly due to heart disease, it leads to fluid build up in the lungs, consequently leading to panting. Without seeing him in person, I can't say what is going on for sure with him, but I agree it does sound worrying. I think it's best you have him seen by a vet now for a health check to be safe. The continued licking could be several things including allergies to fleas, skin mites, allergies to something in the environment, food allergy or endocrine disease. Each one of these problems is detected and addressed differently and I recommend to discuss with your veterinarian which one to start hunting down first. Parasites are often ruled out with an oral medication like Simparica. Food allergy is best ruled out with a diet trial using a hydrolyzed protein. Endocrine diseases are detected with blood work. Environmental allergies are a little more difficult to detect but a response to therapy or a blood test can give an indication. The panting could be due to many things but an endocrine disease may be causing the skin issues and the panting. Once you figure out and address the underlying cause, the licking should not come back. There are a couple things you can do at home and they can help but they may not address the underlying cause. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid

Okay so my dog has been panting very fast and hard for the past 5 or 6 hours and has not drank much water his paws are warm and I don't know what to do
This is quite concerning if he is panting and not in a hot environment. Even if he was just hot, he would be drinking water. Panting without there being a hot environment indicates that the body is having trouble keeping up with oxygen demands. This can happen when there is something wrong with the lungs, heart, or there is a low red blood cell count. In either case it would be considered an emergency and I would recommend you take him to the vet as soon as possible for an evaluation. They will be better able to assess how serious this is and narrow-down the cause of this. My Maltipoo is constantly chewing on his paws. Is this a sign of stress, anxiety?
Chewing at the paws is actually a sign of allergies in dogs. He could have an allergy to something in his food or something in the environment. Discuss with your veterinarian on treatment options for pets with alleriges. There are several medications that can be prescribed to help with this. If it is a mild allergy, then your vet may suggest antihistamines to try first. I would also recommend wiping Buddy's feet with baby wipes when he comes in from outside. This helps remove any possible allergens from his haircoat and can help reduce some of his symptoms if he has an environmental allergy. My dog likes to lick us excessively these past few days (pillows/couch/etc) she also pants a lot. Should i be concern? Thank you!
I am sorry your pet’s behavior is causing you distress!! Certainly excessive licking of fabric and people can be normal, however if this is a new behavior then I would have her checked over by your regular veterinarian. She may have something wrong with her mouth (eg dental disease). Excessive panting can be associated with a number of disease processes including cushings disease and hypothyroidism. Both of these can be diagnosed with blood work and a physical exam.

My dog is panting and walking around and heavy breathing
These are vague signs that could indicate several things like anxiety or pain. If there is something they could be making him anxious (rain, thunder, fireworks, new people, etc), then he will calm down afterwards. Just give him some extra attention. If there is nothing you can think that is making him anxious he could be in discomfort. I would have your vet do an exam to make sure he doesn't need any pain medication. I would not give net human pain meds as most of these are toxic to dogs. I hope this helps!

While panting is a way dogs expel heat, there could be something else going on with him that is making him pant heavily. Panting can be a sign of discomfort or pain. It also can be do to an underlying metabolic problem. I would recommend taking Trouble in to your vet for an exam to see if he needs blood work or potentially pain medication for discomfort.

I can certainly see how this would be very alarming to witness. The symptoms you describe may be related to a disease process affecting an organ system (more often the neurologic (seizure event) or cardiac (heart event) systems). What i would recommend is a visit to your family veterinarian for a physical exam, to discuss the events, and to discuss additional testing (like bloodwork to rule out organ changes). It is also extremely helpful to get a video of an event so that your vet can watch it. Also, given the age of your pup, make sure there is nothing new in the environment that he could be snacking on that may be toxic to dogs (plants, etc.). I have some concerns with my dogs behavior..She's been peeing alot lately in our home then on my balcony then in hallway when I'm taking her outside she just squats anywhere and seems like every hour and she pants alot and licks her paws a whole lot
It sounds like Diamond has a couple of problems going on at the moment. The frequent urination can be a sign of a UTI. Licking her paws a lot can be a sign of allergies, such as food allergies or allergies to insects (fleas, mites). I would take Diamond into the vet first thing in the morning. The vet can do a physical exam, routine blood tests, and a urinalysis to diagnose if she does have a UTI and allergies, and then treat her appropriately from there.

Sammie's front paw looks sore. There has been no blood and he isn't limping. He does keep licking it though.
It looks like he might have chewed a hot spot onto his foot. It may have started with a minor scratch or bug bite or allergies. That itched, he chewed it, which irritated the area, which makes it itch more, and so on. I recommend getting him seen by your vet soon to have his skin checked. After an exam and possibly some lab work, your vet will have a better idea what is going on and how best to treat it.

Hi, and thanks for your question. This is a quite generic but concerning presentation. Differentials are many, from gastrointestinal diseases causing nausea (infection/inflammations often dietary related) to any disease that can spread systemically (causing lethargy for example) like infection, and anything that can cause pain/discomfort. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed.
