My dog has a black, growing lump on his lip. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 10 years and 2 months old | 28 lbs

My dog (daschund/Chihuahua mix) has this black thing growing on his lip. Its been there for about 6 months, started off small & keeps growing. Money is tight so we have not taken him to vet yet. But if you think it’s serious then we will. I thought it may be a tick but I’m scared to pull it in case it’s not. Please help. We love our dogs & want to do what’s best for all of them . Thank you for any help. Stefanie

It looks like he has a skin tag on his lip which is usually a benign lesion. However, I would recommend a visit to your vet to discuss removal since it seems to be growing. Your vet may be able to use cyrosurgery (freezing) to remove it which wouldn't be a huge expense.
