My 8-month Pom puppy coughed after Bordetella. Is it a side effect?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Male | 8 months and 3 days old | 8.4 lbs

My 8 month pom coughed loudly like almost throwing up three separate times during the night. Got him up to potty and he drank some water. This morning got up and coughed now almost two hours ago. Played with the cat, played with the big dog. Eyes and nose clear. Ate all his breakfast with no coughing since he first got up. Bordatella Nasal spray 12 days ago. Could this be a side effect of that? Otherwise no other symptoms

12 days is a little late for a reaction to a vaccine as sneezing/coughing from nasal vaccines are usually pretty soon after. I would keep an eye on Teddy, and if he continues to cough, seems in distress, or turns pale or blue in the gums or tongue (this is a medical emergency), bring in him to your vet. They can rule out other issues such as heart and lung issues, something stuck in the nose or throat, allergies, kennel cough, and more.
