Why are my dog's teeth brown, black, and very loose? Is it serious?

It appears in the picture that Twila has severe dental disease, and that is why her teeth are that color and loose. It is not normal to have loose teeth, and her mouth is likely very painful to her. She needs to see a veterinary asap to have a dental cleaning and scaling, and extractions to remove the loose teeth. Have your cousin take her into a vet first thing in the morning, that is the only option in this case. Best of luck.

I have an eight-year-old chiweenie and she has a loose tooth. I work for a dental office and it somewhat resembles periodontal disease and adult teeth. It looks like the tooth is separating from the gums and it's only the one tooth. My husband is not
Good on your for recognizing that loose tooth may affect dogs the same way as they do humans. You are absolutely correct it will affect them the same way, and I would have Mercee seen by a vet tomorrow. The tooth likely needs to be pulled, which the vet can do, and she will likely need a dental cleaning, scaling, and polishing. Like humans, dogs need dental care and cleanings, and they can and do get periodontal disease. Definitely have her seen by a vet for this issue. Great job for picking up on this!

what happened to my dog's front teeth
It looks like he chewed something hard enough to loosen them or injured them otherwise. Maybe he was chewing something, got his teeth caught, panicked, and tore loose. From his expression he doesn't seem to be in any pain but I would call your vet and describe the problem and see if they recommend coming in. I feel this would probably heal okay on its own, but it's best to check with your vet and get their opinion.

5 yr old Bichon. Teeth cleaned 6/2017. 2 teeth fell out during cleaning and 3 were extracted. Constantly nips on edges of blankets, pillows since. 11/2017, dog in pain, noticed front lower tooth brown, next day fell out. 1/2018, 2 front upper teeth
I'm sorry that you are dealing with this with Kohl. Dental disease is very common in our dogs. If Kohl had 2 teeth fall out and needed 3 teeth extracted at his dental last year, then he likely had fairly significant dental disease. Often, we try to save as many teeth as we can when we perform a dental, but if they are too diseased, then our efforts may be futile. A tooth becomes discolored when its blood supply is interrupted. If Kohl frequently uses his front teeth to pull on things, this could be due to trauma. Once a tooth is discolored, it is considered "dead" and should be removed to prevent infection. Unfortunately, I would recommend that Kohl have another dental performed. If your vet did not do x-rays of his mouth, he should have that done and have any teeth extracted that have abnormal bone on x-rays. If your vet does not have dental x-ray, you can go to a veterinary dentist. I have attached a link to a handout below that has link to website were you can find a veter

Is it normal that my puppy's deciduous teeth that have fallen out are a little stained black? Or is it a sign of a dental issue?
Based on the picture, I don't see anything concerning. As long as the permanent teeth appear normal then I don't think it is abnormal. If you have any concerns, have your vet do a dental examine to make sure all the teeth are erupting correctly.

My 8 year old Lhasa Apso has 4 bottom front teeth that appear to be quite loose. His other teeth look healthy
These bottom teeth probably have significant periodontal disease or may even be fractured causing them to be loose. They should be extracted. Even though Charl's other teeth seem okay, most periodontal disease occurs below the gumline and may not be obvious without a full oral exam under anesthesia and x-rays of the teeth. I would recommend talking to your vet about a dental procedure.

It sounds like the tooth you are referring to is the lower left canine when I look at your picture, rather than an incisor. Because it is a canine tooth that is affected, I would recommend that you make an appointment and have your vet take a look. The canine teeth have very large, strong roots and leave large holes when they come out. I am glad that she is still eating, but it sounds like you do need to get her in. Even if she needs to have it extracted under anesthesia, this is a better option than opening her up to a potential infection, which could be very serious if it were to involve the bone of the lower jaw (mandible). There are also other changes your vet can look for that may have caused the tooth to become loose in the first place, such as a tumor of some kind in her mouth. What should I do? My dog had bad breath and one of her teeth fell out and some of the other ones are loose
Have her examined by your veterinarian. She may have significant periodontal disease if teeth are falling out or loose and she has bad breath. A complete dental cleaning (under anesthesia) may be necessary it is possible she will lose more teeth. Once that is done, she will likely be healthier and more comfortable.

Truly your dog needs to have dental cleaning under anesthesia to evaluate these teeth and clean up all the tartar and around the gumline. Unfortunately most of the time loose teeth need to be removed and it also sounds like your dog could have some gingival recession that needs to be evaluated. I would make an appointment with your vet for an oral exam and most likely they will want you to schedule a dental procedure. Brushing teeth at home is great and will slow buildup of tartar, but it isn't going to fix the problems that Tiger has right now.
