My dog has an eye tumor. Can vets cure it or will he be put down?

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 80 lbs

My dog may possibly have an eye tumor and the soonest I can get an appointment is this Friday. Is this something that the vets can do to cure it or will we end up having to put him down?

That depends on if Texas does have a tumor, what type of tumor it is, and treatment options. I wish I could give you an answer to your question, but I can't without seeing him in person. I hope the appointment goes well.

Unfortunately no, there is no home treatment for eye tumors. He has to see a vet as soon as possible because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would make a plan to take a trip to take your dog to the nearest vet as soon as possible.

The best thing you can do for Itchy Cotrich until you can take him to the vet is to put an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent him from scratching the mass and eye, as this could make matters much worse. Can a tumor behind the eye of my miniature dachshund be removed without cutting out his eye? Could it not be temporarily dislocated?
When removing a tumor, you have to take large enough margins to make sure all of the tumor is removed, and you can't remove part of the eye if the tumor is attached to the eye. While you can temporarily remove an eye from the socket, it often doesn't stay back in, and without know the location the tumor or the type of tumor, I can't say if this is a viable option or not. You can get a second opinion from another vet if you'd like, or you could find a veterinary ophthalmologist to see Darwin.

My dog has this bump since July. been slowly growing since then, & is currently pressuring his eyes more & more. Isn't hard, doesn't hurt him, & no discharge. He is active as normal. Only the last couple of days less appetite & seems uncomfortable. d
That is a big mass. If there is a surgeon who is willing to debulk the tumor, this could bring him some relief. You could then have the tissue sent in for analysis. You would likely get a diagnosis from a larger sample. Unfortunately, it's impossible to know if this is cancerous or a cyst just by looks. A tissue sample must be analyzed to get the correct diagnosis. An x-ray of his skull may also show bone involvement which would indicate cancer. Chest x-rays would also be a good idea to look for metastatic tumors. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Hello, I have a 5yr old spayed rottie, a couple months ago I went to the vet and she noticed a black spot in Tia's , she is concerned it could be cancer. I wanted to wait to see if it would change and it has gotten slightly bigger. I attached 3 pics.
My last visit to my dog's ophthalmologist was quite a bit less than surgery would be to remove his eye, so before making any rash decisions, I would find out the cost of seeing the ophthalmologist. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to determine if a mass in the anterior chamber is an iris cyst (which is benign) or a melanoma, but one trick is that an iris cyst may move in the eye. So if Tia is on her back, does the mass move? If so, be sure to give your doctor that information. I wish I had a simple answer for you, but I hope that was helpful. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Possible neuro carcenoma treatment
Unfortunately , without knowing what kind of cancer your dog may be suffering from exactly there is no way to give a prognosis nor describe treatment. Every cancer is different and treatments vary depending on the kind. Your vet will need to do a biopsy of the mass and send it in to a laboratory to determine whether it is malignant or benign and what type of cancer this is. He will then be able to discuss possible treatment options with you and will be able to give you a prognosis.

My 7 year old dog has been diagnosed with aggressive eyelid cancer. The vet wants to remove the eye but cannot tell me what her prognosis is or whether it has spread elsewhere. What are her chances of survival. I don't want to put her through unneces
I have no idea about her prognosis as it all depends on the exact type of tumour she has in the eyelid. Some tumours spread quickly whilst others linger in one area. It might be worth getting your vet to stage the cancer. You can habe a biopsy sent to the lab to get an exact diagnosis for rhe tumour then have Lymph nodes, the lungs and organs checked for metastases. If there is nothing in the other organs i would go ahead.

My dog was recently diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. :( He is on pain meds and as a result continues all activities normally. However- his eye is bulging from the tumor. Will it pop out if the tumor keeps growing?
Poor Red. I hate to hear this is happening. The tumor will not likely pop the eye out but it will make the eye more prone to popping out if there is any type of trauma. Pressure on the eye can be very uncomfortable so monitor him very closely and keep the veterinarian updated to any changes or progression. BROWN STAIN DOG'S EYE: TUMOR ? I took my dog to the vet last week after noticing that her conjunctiva was inflamed, basically her sclera was a little reddish. She gave me eyewash and Fradexam, the treatment consist of 4 drops a day for a week. Today
It almost looks like an eye freckle. However I would follow up with your vet for an up close eye examination. A referral to an ophthalmologist may also be needed to know for sure. Just an FYI, most eye tumors in dogs are involving the iris and not the sclera (white part of the eye). Best wishes with your pet and I hope everything works out well for Lili.
