My dog has a growing hard bump on his eyelid. Should I get it checked?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | neutered | 5 years and 5 months old | 85 lbs

My dog had entropion surgery a few years ago and now he has a hard bump on the outside of his lower eyelid. Do we need to get this checked? It doesn’t seem to bother him but it has grown a little over the last year from the first time I noticed it.

Hello. The bump on the picture looks like either a growth/tumor or a cyst. Many of these are benign but it is recommended that you have your veterinarian look at it in person to advise you if this should be surgically removed. These growths often originate from tear glands and are pretty common. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach
