Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 10 years and 6 months old | 18 lbs
My 10 year old Yorkie had a bump that initially I thought was a stye about 2 weeks ago. It does not seem to bother her. I think though it has enlarged a bit from initial presentation. It is definately on the eyelid, not stuck to eye. I am concerned that it now seems to appear like a mass. What are your thoughts does this appear like a malignant tumor? We have an appointment with vet but I am loosing sleep over this. Any other possibilities of what this could be? From a Worried Fur Mama!

Hello. It is important to have a veterinarian examine this in person, but it looks like a growth or cyst originating from the Meibomian glands - which are glands that help tear production. These growths and cysts are usually benign but can become infected, rupture open or irritate the surface of the cornea if they get big enough. Even if your veterinarian diagnoses this as a non-cancerous growth or a cyst, it may still require surgical removal at some point. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
