My cat has a skin wound, isn't in pain, acts normal. What is it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi. Our cat has gotten this wound/skin damage and we're not sure what it is. Our first thought was chemical burn, but he doesn't seem to be in pain, and don't mind the area being touched. He eats, drinks and acts normal.

Hi and thanks for your request. If the area is on the back of the neck, it could be due to an allergic reaction but trauma, chemical burns or small spot of infection are possible as well. It is not possible to determine the underlying cause from the pic you attach. A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths.
