My cat's spay incision is red and looks like it's opening. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi, Our cat is a 6 month old female Abyssinian who recently got spayed on Thursday 5/27. we noticed the outer incision started to open and it is a little red around the area as well. We’ve read that small openings aren’t necessarily something to be concerned about but we figured a trained eye can better evaluate. Any feedback would be very much appreciated.

That looks fine as a healing incision. Continue to keep an eye on it for swelling, reddening, oozing, make sure she doesn't lick it too much and keep her from running and jumping for another week or so to ensure complete healing. After that time she can go back to her normal activities.
