My dog's spay/neuter incision looks open after 4 weeks. Vet visit?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 60 lbs

Hello, my 9 month old dog got spayed/neutered on April 5. It’s been four week but recently noticed the area was slightly opened. Should I take him to the vet? It’s wasn’t bleeding and there was no foul smell. Please help

It looks like it could be a mild, common reaction to the internal suture. I would get him back to the vet for them to have a look and try to remove the suture that's bothering him. If it continues to irritate him, he might start licking and chewing and potentially cause problems.
