My dog got too much fish oil and now has diarrhea. Is he okay?

I gave my dog 1 tablespoon of fish oil instead of one teaspoon he has diarrhea will he be ok

Chipper should be ok. Withhold food for 8-12 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he refuses to eat the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. If it has been less than 2 hours since your pet ingested the foreign material, you can induce vomiting by giving an oral dose of hydrogen peroxide, about 1 cc per pound. One tablespoon is about 5 cc. A turkey baster will work if you don't have a syringe. Longer than two hours and it will have already moved into the intestines. Generally, even without the induction of vomiting, your dog is likely to have diarrhea and other intestinal upset from eating so much fish oil at once. Be aware that one of the effects of fish oil in the body is to act as a blood thinner. I have seen dogs ingest much more than your dog did and do fine, but if your dog becomes lethargic, loses her appetite, starts vomiting, please get her seen by your vet right away.

My dog weighs 20 lbs. He ate about 4 sour cream and onion chips. He now has diarrhea that looks kind of bloody, but no other symptoms. What is wrong? What do I do?
Poor Toby! It could be the chips have upset his stomach leading to the diarrhea that looks bloody. He hasn't eaten a large amount, so he likely should be fine. It's important to consider that this potentially bloody diarrhea could be due to another cause besides the chips, such as a GI illness or hemorrhagic gastroenteritis. I can give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. My dad pan fried fish in oul last night, 10 hours later gave my dog the pan to lick out after he cleaned out some of the oil. What will happen to my dog?
Hello, and thank you for your question. Ingesting a small amount of oil and fish from a pan should not cause any serious problems. At most I would expect to see a bit of diarrhea or softer stools for about 24 hours afterwards. You can try offering a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice during this time, to help minimize any stomach upset caused from eating the rich foods. If Daisy starts vomiting or has diarrhea that worsens over 24 hours, I would suggest taking her to a vet, as occasionally eating very rich foods can cause pancreatitis which is more serious and requires additional medications and care. My 108 lb lab ate vegtable cooking oil that I had made chicken in. He has vomited and has diarrhea. He vomited after drinking water last night. He ate a little bit of his food this morning but not very peppy. Should I try a bland diet or just.his
I would give him a bland diet like plain boiled boneless, skinless chicken and white rice to see if this helps. If he continues to vomiting, be lethargic, or have diarrhea, I would strongly recommend to have your vet take a look at him. Eating vegetable cooking oil is high in fat and he could have developed pancreatitis which will need some medical therapy to help him improve. Pancreatitis is when the pancreas becomes very inflamed and irritated and is usually caused by eating trash or something high in fat. I hope this helps and Nixon starts to feel better soon!

Hello, my dog has been puking and having diarrhea for the last few days, she had a fishy smell coming from her anus during the beginning
Withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet (1:1 ratio of plain boiled boneless chicken and plain white rice). Feed in small, frequent amounts waiting at least one hour between feedings. If the vomiting stops, continue feeding until the stool is normal. Transition slowly to the regular diet. If the vomiting or diarrhea don’t stop, see your veterinarian. The fishy odor is likely from her anal glands. These glands are located around her rectum and are responsible for scenting and marking. They get expressed (or emptied) during defecation but sometimes, they can get too full and inflamed or infected. Occasionally, an abscess can form requiring lancing, flushing and antibiotic therapy.

Dog was chewing on a cooked beef bone. Looks like he chewed some up and it crumbled. He had hard dry poop this morning now diarrhea.

My 5 month old 50lb dog ate a medium Wendy’s fry yesterday and has been having watery stool. He is not lethargic or vomiting. He is eating and drinking. The diarrhea is realllllllly watery though. I’m not sure what to do.

You can start Duke on a bland diet mainly composed of boiled chicken and white rice for a few days which may help soothe his gastrointestinal tract. Otherwise, this is very likely going to resolve.
