My dog missed enalapril. Is skipping her heart medication dangerous?

My dog has to miss three doses analipril. Could she die?

It's very important that Molly gets her enalapril as scheduled, and missing three doses can be harmful to her health. I can't say if she will die or not, but I do think it's best to give her one of the missed doses now (not all three!) and then the next as regularly scheduled. Have her checked out by a vet to be safe in the morning. I hope this helps!

Not to worry - this type of issue happens quite frequently. At this point, I think your best bet is to give Tater-Tot her 11pm enalapril dose early around 8-9pm, and then return her to her normal 11am/11pm schedule tomorrow. Do not give a double dose! If she seems to show signs of congestive heart failure, such as difficulty breathing, trouble settling down, or exercise intolerance, it is worth taking her to a vet urgently. Fortunately congestive heart failure is rarely dramatically exacerbated after missing one dose of medication. I hope this helps and that all goes well!

Hello. Do not worry. Missing a dose or two will not set Nyla back nor worsen her condition. Kidney disease & the subsequent blood pressure problems are both chronic conditions, so a few missed doses, while not ideal, will really do her no harm. Just resume the medication as soon as you can. Hello and thank you for your question on Boop by Petco! Yes it is okay if he misses one dose on accident. Just remember to give him his enapril pill tomorrow as you have done in the past. Missing multiple days in a row may cause a problem but missing one dose is not concerning. I hope this has helped and I wish you and Riley the very best!

gave my dog his 2nd dose of enalapril less than 12hrs of his first dose.should i worry?
I would not be overly concerned however, it depends on the dose and how far apart the doses were given. If you are talking about 2 hours apart then there could be an issue. If you are talking more like 9-10 hours apart then it should be just fine.

I am unable to get my cat's prescription of Enalapril 2.5Mg refilled until Tuesday. He is taking 1 pill in the AM and half a pill at night. I gave him half a pill this AM as that's all I had left. So he will not be able to take any tonight, tomorrow
Hi there. Cody is a very handsome kitty :) Enalapril's effects are pretty subtle and long-term, so it shouldn't cause any significant issues for him to miss a few doses. Just get his prescription filled when you are able to, and continue the meds as directed once you have them.

Hello. You do not indicate what medication Lily is on so I cannot really say, but if there is no way to pick up the meds, you will just have to make do. But in general, missing a few doses are fine, unless this is a life saving heart drug. Can I substitute Lisinopril for enalapril for 1 dose? Web says yes but would like an expert to advise
I would not recommend that you change out meds without direct supervision by your vet. Dosing is not the same between these two drugs and it depends a lot on what condition we are treating here. Lisinopril is not as commonly used in dogs. If you are out of meds and cannot refill until tomorrow, it would be better to skip a dose then to change meds suddenly (although certainly skipping meds is not advised if you can avoid it).

A single dose (not overdosed) should not cause any harm if your dog is fit and healthy. Monitor him for the day, he may feel weaker than normal and urinate more. Make sure water is available all the time.

Hello. You can definitely skip the 7 PM dose today & restart the schedule tomorrow morning, or if you think it will simplify things, just give the pill in the evenings from here on out. I may have given dog an extra dose of enalapril by accident. I counted pills and might be one off. He is a 64 lb border collie taking it bc if extra protein in urine. He takes a 10mg pill every 12 hrs.
Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about E. Low blood pressure is the most common sign of toxicity. Other signs include lethargy, excess salivation, increased heart rate, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, and cough. If you see any of those signs, rush him into a vet immediately. I hope this helps!
