My kitten has scabs and is lethargic after getting a new cat?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 10 months and 8 days old | 10 lbs

Our 10 month old male kitten has formed red scab like wounds around his ears, nose, and paws. He is obviously not feeling well as he is very lethargic and sleeps much more often that usual. We adopted another 5 month old kitten a week ago and it seems pretty clear he picked up something from the new cat but we’re just trying to figure out what it is. Very concerned about our little guy, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ringworm is highly contagious, so it could be Winston has ringworm causing these scabs. It's pretty serious that he is very lethargic and sleeping more than usual, so it's time to see the vet to get this diagnosed and treated. I'd take him into the vet first thing in the morning. Best of luck.

I hate to hear that Timmay is not feeling like himself. I would recommend to get Timmay seen by his veterinarian today if possible given that he has been lethargic for a week. They will check his temperature and give him a physical exam. Lethargy can be due to fever, organ dysfunction, anemia, heart disease, infection as well as other causes. That scab on his face could be a few things. An abscess could present like this and it could be superficial or related to a tooth root abscess. Superficial bacterial infections, thyroid problems or allergies could also look this way. The vet will try to figure out the cause and will prescribe appropriate medications. Given that Timmay is 18 years old, the vet may recommend bloodwork to check his enzyme levels and bone marrow function. Older cats are more prone to kidney disease as well as other problems with organ dysfunction. Poor cat! If the wound is growing in size, it's time to go to your vet. Problems such as allergies to parasite bites, fungal infections such as ringworm, infections of the skin, abscesses/sores etc can all be potential causes which is why a vet visit is needed to determine the cause, provide treatment such as pain meds and antibiotics, etc. Until you can get to your vet, keeping the area clean and dry may help as well as preventing your cat from licking, but if he is acting ill and hiding away he is likely already painful or worsening so needs care.

I would get this seen by your vet to be on the safe side. It may be a healing scab but it looks a little suspicious of ringworm, and that can be easily spread to other pets and people in your household. Another possibility is an allergy to plastic if they have plastic bowls for food or water, but those lesions tend to be located on the chin and lips, not to one side. Your vet will do an exam, probably pluck some hairs from that spot for a fungal culture and may examine some of the cells under a microscope to see if they can identify the cause. Based n these results they should be better able to tell you why this happened and how best to treat it.

He really needs to see a vet for this issue. Hair loss in kittens is almost always due to ringworm or another type of parasite (mites). He doesn't look very healthy and probably needs to be dewormed as well. Ringworm is contagious to people (especially young kids) so it is best if you take him to your vet for a diagnosis so appropriate treatment can be started. Hope this helps.

Overall he is lethargic, watery eyes we suspect he has an ear infection (it looks like a scab on both sides VARY tender also on nose) We gave him antibiotics with no improvement. ALSO gave Natural Ear Wash. HELP
Gremlin needs to be examined by the veterinarian. With multiple areas of concern (the ear tips and the nose), something like ringworm (which humans can get), bacterial infection or vasculities are concerning and need treatment. Also, an ear infection needs medication that you can only get from your veterinarian. Ear infections can be painful and they can move into an inner ear infection which is much harder (and more expensive) to treat. Have Gremlin examined within the next 24 hours. It's better to play it safe. I hope this helps.

This sounds a little suspicious of ringworm. Classic symptoms of ringworm include lesions that typically appear on a pet’s head, ears, paws and forelimbs. These lesions can cause patchy, crusted circular “bald spots” that sometimes look red in the center. In mild cases of ringworm, there may be just a few broken hairs, while bad cases of ringworm can spread over most of a pet’s body. It’s also possible for a pet to carry the fungus and not show any symptoms whatsoever. Treatment of ringworm depends on the severity of the infection. A veterinarian may prescribe a medicated shampoo or ointment that contains miconazole or a dip such as lime sulfur to kill the fungus. In some cases, oral medications are necessary to cure ringworm. In severe cases, it may be necessary to use a topical and oral treatment, in addition to clipping away the fur. Once treatment begins, lesions should begin to heal in about one to three weeks. Your kitten needs to be seen by a veterinarian. This sounds like a chronic infection which needs to be addressed. Matted fur is a sign of the cat not grooming itself and not playing is also a sign of not being well. This is not going to go away by itself. Please take your kitten to a vet tomorrow morning.

I bought 2 kittens from spca and found scabby patch all over there bodies. Ears nose above eyes feet dide of tummy. I did not change the food they got from spca as they had runny tummies aswell which is now beter. It does not seem to bother them but
I would bring them in for an exam to check for ringworm. That is a fungal skin infection that many kittens have. Please wash your hands well after handing them as people can get ringworm too. They will check to see if it's a bacterial or fungal infection and usually get you topical medication to use. Bathing the kittens may help and make sure they do not have fleas or ear mites. There could be a couple of things causing these scabs such as mites, allergies, ringworm, or fleas. I think Miran should see a vet before Friday. The vet can diagnose what is causing this skin problem, and can treat him. Best of luck.

Congrats on your new kitten but I'm sorry Thor isn't doing well! It is concerning that this sore is swollen, which is a sign of infection. He could also have intestinal worms causing his diarrhea. A heavy burden of them can lead a kitten to be more lethargic and not want to eat, as could an infection such as from the sore on his ear. It's serious enough that Thor should see a vet first thing in the morning so his symptoms can be diagnosed and treated.
