My puppy has white specs in poop after gastroenteritis. Is it worms?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 3 days old | 2 lbs

Does my puppy have worms? She has little white specs in her poo. She is recovering from gastroenteritis (she received IV fluids on Monday and Tuesday at the vet then had a very quick turnaround). She now has a ravenous appetite and begs to eat every 2-3 hrs. I give her about 1 TBS of dry food (7g) every 2 hrs as well as nutri-gel.

Hello there, This appears to just be grainy textured stool. To rule out fecal parasites, she would need a microscopic examination of the feces done by your veterinarian. Many veterinarians will be happy to test the dropped off stool samples for their regular patients. Puppies of that age should always be interested in food though, this does sound like normal behavior. Continue with the frequent feedings and nutrical as recommended by your vet. I hope this helps.
