Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 6 years and 4 months old | 16 lbs
Hello! Dog has a suspicious bump near her anal gland. It isn’t tender and she doesn’t have any issues pooping. She is spayed and had her last physical in March with a clean bill of health. She last had her anal glands expressed in September. No licking, scooting or scratching or anal gland leakage. She’s all up to date on shots and is on monthly heartworm/flea/tick prevention. Only 1 other dog in the house, clean bill of health and up to date and on prevention as well. Please help!

Hello. I agree, this is very suspicious, & I would have your veterinarian check this out pretty soon. It could be an infection, possibly originating from the anal gland, or it could be a tumor. We do see perianal tumors quite frequently in dogs. Because of the location of the swelling, you do want to have this looked after soon & before it becomes possibly more involved. Hopefully it is just an infection & a course of antibiotics should clear things up nicely. Good luck & thanks for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
