Dog poop: jelly with blood, acts normal. Is it the jerky treat?

Pet's info: Dog | Goldendoodle | Female | spayed | 2 years and 6 months old | 60 lbs

Hello. My dog just pooped and it was jelly/jam consistency with a bit of blood. She is acting completely normal. She was running and playing as well. Eating and drinking like normal. Her food hasn’t changed. I did give her a chicken jerky strip yesterday evening and this morning. It is a new bag but she has had them several times before. Should I be concerned?

The chicken jerky strip could be the cause of the poop with some blood in it. It's a new bag, it may be a new formula. I can give you a home remedy for Birdie to see if that helps. Feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the the blood in her poop continues on the bland diet, she develops diarrhea, she refuses to eat the bland diet, she starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Poor Irie! There may be some blood in her feces because her intestines are irritated from the diarrhea. I can give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps her. Even random food can cause GI upset. The only food Kira needs is her dog food. I'm concerned that she is pooping blood, keep a close eye on that. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she starts vomiting food, she continues to have blood in her poop, she stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.

Poor Buddy! Diarrhea can be caused by a variety of conditions, including parasites, viruses, "garbage gut" from eating different foods or treats, among many others. Buddy may be having a bit of blood in his stool from irritation to the colon or parasites. Since you can't take him to the vet today and he is otherwise eating and drinking normally, try withholding food for the next 12-24 hours. After that time, offer boiled white meat chicken and white rice (1 cup of the 50:50 mixture for every 10 pounds of body weight, divided into 2-4 smaller meals) for the next few days. After several days on this bland diet, gradually mix in his normal dog food over another 5-7 days. However, if his diarrhea continues or worsens, if he becomes lethargic, stops eating and drinking, or has more blood in his stool, Buddy will need to go to his vet for further evaluation. My dog ate a bully bone yesterday and seemed fine. Took him out today and he had diarrhea and it looked like blood mixed. Kinda dark but also red. He has eaten and he was just playing ball. Not acting out of the ordinary.
It could be that the bully bone upset Tornado’s stomach leading to the diarrhea with blood in it. Given he’s otherwise acting normal, I can give you a home remedy for him. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts a couple of times a day for several days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet diet. If the diarrhea continues in the absence of food, he has diarrhea on the bland diet, there is still blood in his feces, he stops eating, starts vomiting, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, and/or becomes very lethargic, take him into a vet immediately. The diarrhea could be irritating Odin's GI tract, leading to the bleeding. The bland diet of chicken and rice is a good idea. Feed it in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, there is still blood in his feces on the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. It sounds like you are doing very well so far. Bloody diarrhea or dark blood can be serious in dogs depending on the cause, so a vet visit would be best. however, I understand your concerns for that. Most probiotics you can mix in the food so you know they get all of instead of scattered through water, so I would see if she will take it in the food. I would also change to boiled chicken and rice since it is very easy to digest and won't cause any dye changes to the stool or any inflammation to the GI tract. You can also add low fat yogurt to help. Hydration is the key so keep her drinking, you may try chicken broth or pedialyte. Her energy will return once the stool gets better controlled.

My dog pooped out jelly like blood(?) in his stool this morning. Almost seemed like he had some type of fatty substances in it. I recently changed his food. He seems fine, he ate this morning as well. He doesn’t seem different. Should I seek vet help
Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. It sounds to me like there was mucous in the stool along with the blood. This can be seen with diarrhea and if the blood was a small amount, I would not be too concerned by this, especially if he recently was switched to a different food. I would recommend feeding a bland diet as outlined below and then transitioning back to the new dog food over a 7 day period. If the problem continues or starts back up after reintroducing the new dog food after the bland diet, I would recommend feeding a different dog food altogether. If there is still no improvement, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Tito so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps!
