My dog accidentally took too much antibiotic. Will she be okay?

Pet's info: Dog | English Mastiff | Female | spayed | 2 years and 4 months old | 150 lbs

I accidentally gave Lina her antibiotic 2x a day for 2 days. The pepsid was supposed to be 2x a day and the simplicef 1x a day (300 mg)

That's ok, this happens. Lina should be fine; at most, you may see some stomach upset but this won't cause any serious problems. Just be sure to give it to her once a day from now on. I hope this helps!

She will likely be ok, however she could get diarrhea since the penicillin in this 10-fold overdose likely killed every single bacterium in your dog including the good bacteria in the digestive system. Depending on whether this was a long-acting or short acting penicillin you should wait a few days and add some probiotics to her food to help reestablish a healthy intestinal flora.

How easy is it to overdose amoxicillin? My vet told me to give my puppy 1.5 mL morning and evening, but unfortunately the syringe was difficult to read and I accidentally gave him 2.5 mL. Should I be worried?
Hello. Amoxicillin is a very safe medication with a large range of appropriate doses. I would not worry at all about this one time overdose. Just continue with the 1.5 ml at the next scheduled time. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Hi, My dogs is a 10-pound toy poodle and he is on 50 mg of doxycyline bid. He accidentally took one 50mg pill of minocycline which is my other dog's pill along with his dose. Do you think this will affect him?
50mg of minocycline is within his dose for the antibiotic. You may see some stomach upset (vomiting or diarrhea) since he had both doxycycline and minocycline. As long as it is just stomach upset, you can try managing it at home. Withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet in small, frequent amounts. Begin with 1 tablespoon of food every hour and gradually increase the amount if there is no vomiting. Feed bland until symptoms resolve and the stool is normal, then transition slowly to the regular diet. Monitor for lethargy, persistent vomiting or diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. These are symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian.

I accidentally doubled my 6 month old, 11lbs dogs amoxi tab dosage. Dosage was 150mg/twice per day and he received 300mg a half hour apart.
Hello and thank you for contacting Boop by Petco. It should not cause any problems to Max. Some dogs develop mild diarrhea after overdosing this antibiotics but there should not be any more serious side effects. Please, monitor Max at home and continue antibiotics as prescribed. There is no need to skip the next dose.

I gave my dog too much Cefpodoxime 100mg medication tonight. She was suppose to take a half tablet every 12 hours, but I gave her a whole tablet.
Don' t worry about having given her a one off overdose. It is a third generation cephalosporin antibiotic that it's quite often used at high dosages for skin problems. If given continuously at double dosage, I would recommend to check her liver through a blood test but since it just occurred once I would not worry on this occasion.

My 5lb dog ate my 75lb dogs antibiotic, Ampicillin 250MG. He spit it out and my little dog snagged it and ran, hid and ate it. Will he be okay? Or what are the next steps I should take?
Oh no, that was naughty of Baxter! He took about five times the recommended dose of ampicillin. This will likely cause a reaction in the form of vomiting, drooling, and diarrhea, but more serious effects such as tremors or seizures. If you see tremors or seizures, Baxter will have to see a vet immediately. Should you see vomiting and diarrhea, withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet.

Hi my puppy swallowed 2of my 150 mg clindmycin will it do any harm
Hi there. It would help to know how much your puppy weighs. But in general, I would not expect to see any serious issues from a one-time dose of clindamycin, even if it's a relatively high dose for her size. You might see some mild GI upset (vomiting or diarrhea) for the next 24 hours or so, but otherwise she should be just fine.

Not a problem Laila, I'm glad to help! It's absolutely fine to wait to give her more until when her next dose is due, especially since you aren't sure how much she was given. You don't want to give her too much and risk an overdose. Hopefully next time, the syringe won't get stuck and you can give her all the antibiotic! Have a great night :-)

This should be fine as most commonly used antibiotics have wide dose ranges and good safety margins. It does depend on the specific antibiotic though and dosage, to be safe you can either ring your vet for advice or repost with more details here.

I have a 9 month old puppy(35 lbs) named skipper. He ate my older dogs cefaseptin 750 mg tablet 10 minutes ago, will it hurt him? Is there anything I should be giving him or do?
Hello. This is twice the normal dude for him, but this is a very safe antibiotic with very low chance of toxicity. I doubt that Skipper will suffer any side effects, but to guard against nausea...try to feed him a little to reduce the chance that he could vomit .
