Dog vomited green, stomach hurts, new diet. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 1 month old | 75 lbs

Woke up this morning to green puke in my dogs kennel. It was mostly food chunks and some hair. I pressed on her stomach and she barked, which concerned me. We just switched her diet. She’s acting crazy and running around still. Fed her some chicken and rice, Which she quickly ate. Not sure what to do.

Hi, and thanks for your question. As a first approach, I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitely recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.
