My dog has a soft, non-painful bump under eye. Vet wait too long!

I noticed a small soft bump under my dogs right eye. It’s not painful to touch or warm. At first I thought maybe it was a bug bite but it’s been there for 3 days He’s eating and drinking normally. His teeth have had some plaque for years now and he’s always had stinky breath. I called our vet and I’m not able to get an appointment until NOVEMBER

Cooper is so cute! I see what you mean about the swelling under his eye. It could be he injured the area, it could be a cyst, or it could be the area is infected. It does need to be checked out by a vet, and November is too long to wait for him to be seen. Give his vet a call back and see if they can put on you a cancellation list, meaning that if someone cancels their appointment, they call you to get you in sooner. Your other option is to take him into an ER vet to get this seen right away. I hope this helps.

I can definitely see a lump or swollen area under his right eye. This could be due to a tumor of some kind, a localized inflammatory reaction or infection, or an abscessed tooth root. If he's acting normal, I would not consider this to be an emergency, but he does need to be seen by your veterinarian tomorrow if possible. He/she can palpate the area to help determine what is causing the swelling, and will advise you on what kind of treatment is needed depending on what is found.

Hi! My 4 year old terrier mix developed this bump underneath his left eye within the last 24 hours. It doesn’t seem to bother him or affect his vision. Should we see our vet immediately? Thank you!
Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. Based on the photo, the swelling could be from a number of things. This could be from an insect bite / sting, an infection or a cyst. Since this just showed up in the last 24 hours, the likelihood of this being a cyst is small. I would say this is more likely from an insect bite / sting. I would recommend applying a warm compress to the area (warm water washcloth) several times a day and consider giving Benadryl. Here is an article on Benadryl dosing you can use as a guideline. I hope this helps! There is a cyst like bump on my dogs eye lid..it seemed to have look like it burst earlier today and the eye looks better but yet still irritated around the eye. Do I need to go to the vet still?
Hello and welcome to Boop by Petco. Bumps on eye-lids can be cysts, but they can also be other masses like tumors. For this reason getting it checked is recommended. In the mean-time, I would check for squinting, moving away from your hand when you go to pet him on that side of the face, redness/blueness/whiteness of the eye-ball itself that is different from the other eye, or scratching/pawing at the eye. If any of these are occuring, then I would take Marley to a vet. If he isn't too concerned about it, and isn't squinting or moving away from you, and is only minimally pawing at it, then I would recommend getting an E-collar (you can pick one up from any emergency clinic without an appointment as it is now late in Australia), to prevent ongoing trauma to the eye which can get much much worse with scratching. I would then get Marley to your vet in the morning. Best of luck with Marley.

It could be that Lovey is suffering from an allergic reaction causing these swollen bumps around his body. It could be an environmental allergy causing these bumps, but without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain. I am concerned he now has a swollen eye, as he could have injured his eye or have an eye infection. To answer your question, yes definitely take him into the vet today. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it is considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! He is so adorable! This could have been due to a traumatic injury during the play date even if there is not an external wound present. Another possibility is that this was noted incidentally after a play date and this is actually something unrelated such as due to dental disease or even a growth underneath those tissues. I recommend you keep an eye on it for now. If it is just swelling from a traumatic injury, it may improve on its own. However, it may not improve on its own and need further therapy. If it is something else, it will probably continue to be present or worsen over time. If it does not improve or it worsens in the next week, I highly recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This could be a benign or malignant growth. This could even be an abscess. There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. This is usually determined with an examination and a fine needle aspirate (FNA) or a biopsy. Treatment depends on the findings up to that point. I recommend you have Ozzie evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a good night!

New eye issue. Leaking. Came on in 2 hours.
Hello, poor Cooper that looks painful!!! He has quite a bit of red around his scleral and the conjunctiva of the lower eye lid appears to have a hematoma (bleeding) or chemosis (swelling). I looks as though he may have bumped his eye into something. However, some of these signs can also occur with an eye infection, corneal ulcer, or foreign body. Cooper will likely need at least some pain medications to keep him comfortable while the swelling goes down. He may also need to have his eye stained to check for an ulcer and eye ointments to treat for an eye infection. It would be best to have a veterinarian examine his eye sooner than later. Deep ulcers can progress quite quickly without medical management. Any ulcer or foreign body can be quite painful. If you think however, Cooper is comfortable and isn't showing any signs of pain (squinting, rubbing eye, or being lethargic) then you may monitor the redness at home to see if this gets better. I see what you mean, thank you for proving pictures of Tucker's bump. it could be that it's just a benign growth. I would wait before seeing a vet to see if it gets bigger or doesn't go away. Skipper developed a soft lump on his rt side. Very quick development. No obvious pain or discomfort
Has he been licking at it? Can you identify a wound on it? It may be an abscess (localized infection) under the skin, as thise can show up very quickly. You can shave the hair over the top and clean it with dilute Betadine (available at any pharmacy - use water to dilute it so it looks like tea). Put an ecollar (cone) on him to prevent him from biting or chewing on it, and make an appointment with your vet as soon as you can—but it’s not something you need to see an emergency vet for as long as it’s not seeming painful and he’s eating and acting normally. Other possible causes would be some type of tumor (though less likely with his age), or a fluid accumulation called a seroma. Your vet may Do a fine needle aspirate (poke the bump with a needle and then look at cells under the microscope) to see what it is and then know how best to treat it. Yes, you do need to take him to the vet. It will not go away on it's own even when the tooth drops out. Dogs are very good at hiding their pain, so he could still be in pain without showing any outward signs. I would have him seen by a vet as soon as possible.
