Why does my dog have a hard, red, scabbed bump on her nose suddenly?

My dog has a bump on her snout that appeared about two weeks ago. At first it was very red now it seems to have a scab on it. I haven’t noticed her scratching it a lot or acting odd. It is hard. She is a five year old miniature pincher mix.

I see what you mean about the lump on Penny's nose. In the third picture, I see the scab and I wonder if she rubbed her nose causing the scab to form. This could be a growth of some sorts. I would have this checked out by a vet, I don't like the look of it in the pictures and it's been there for two weeks. I don't think it's anything serious or worrying, but it would be good to have a vet look at it in person. Give her vet a call now to make her an appointment. I hope this helps.

From the picture it actually looks more like a deep skin infection to me. This could be bacterial or fungal, or even a hypersensitivity reaction (less likely). I would recommend that she be examined by your veterinarian soon. They may look at a sample under the microscope to help determine what therapies might be most helpful. If it went down in size earlier, then that would be a good sign that this is a certain type of cyst or benign (non-cancerous) tumor. However, many tumors can look similar to this one and some of them are not benign. Since it is small, and you've seen it go down before, it would be worth waiting a couple of weeks to see if it shrinks again. If it does not go down, gets bigger or continues to be irritated when she plays, then best to bring her in to the vet. This type of lump can be easily removed and they can determine exactly what it is at the vet clinic or a laboratory.

We noticed some scabs on our dog’s nose. She also has bumps on her forehead. Any idea?
Scabs like that can be a few things. Sometimes it’s a one time infection. Sometimes it’s related to allergies and sometimes it can be related to hypothyroidism. Your fastest option is to have her examined by the veterinarian. Lesions on the nose may not heal very well with topical medication because pets lick it off. Often they are prescribed systemic medications since they travel in the bloodstream. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Is this bump on my dog’s nose a concern?
It looks like this lump could simply be a benign tumor, but that's impossible to say without seeing the dog in person. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. I'd give your dog's vet a call to set up an appointment for sometime this week. I hope this helps!

According to the picture this looks like a wart that Lady scratched and now has a scab on it. Since she is bothering with it and seems uncomfortable I would take her to see your veterinarian. They can make sure it is nothing else like a scratch that got infected or a different type of growth that go infected and scabbed over. They also will be able to give her a topical ointment to place on the area to help with any type of infection. If this is something that continues to bother her or scab over I would recommend removing it so it does not continually get infected and bother her. If she is scratching at it I would put an e-collar on her so she does not make it worse. As dogs age it is very common for them to get more warts like these, some may bother them while others will not.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Penny. Skin disease is frustrating as many conditions can look the same. I would have a fungal culture performed to check for ringworm and skin scrapes to check for mites. If it isn't either of these, I would put her on antibiotics to treat for a dermatitis. I would also look down her ears canals to ensure she has not been scratching secondary to an ear infection. I hope this information helps and is a good starting point for you.

My dog has 3 pink sticky bumps on her nose. What could it be?
That are certainly weird looking! Depending on when those lesions started and if they seem to be itchy, my presumptive diagnosis might differ considerably. It is possible that Cami might have been sticking in muzzle in an area that she shouldn't have been, resulting in some sort of irritation, and the lesions you currently see. They do definitely appear to be red, inflamed, and possibly infected based on the picture. Another possibility is that there is an immune-mediated condition that could be the cause of this. There is a disease known as Pemphigus that is known to cause skin lesions near the nose. I would definitely take Cami into the vet to have these areas assessed, and have some preliminary diagnostics run on the affected portions of the skin. Hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! A lot of skin bumps and lumps can look the same. She could have hit her nose on something and the bump is related to trauma and will go away, it could be a benign growth (like a histiocytoma), it could be part of a skin infection or immune reaction, hives or a cancerous growth. If the bump doesn't resolve in a few days I recommend having your Vet look at it. The sores around her mouth can also be due to infection or an immune condition and may or may not be related to the new bump on her nose. I hope this helps and I wish Luna a speedy recovery!

My puppy just turned 4 months. A few weeks ago I noticed a small bump on his snout, it has continued to grow. It doesn't seem painful, and it's firm. I wanted to know if I should take him to an animal hospital or just make an appt with my vet? Pic #1
If the area has continued to grow, I would definitely recommend having the area assessed by your veterinarian. If it is bothersome or itchy (by the looks of it, I would assume that it is since it appears to be inflamed), I would advise that you get Pepper a cone to wear in the mean time in order to prevent her from digging and scratching at the lesion. In terms of treatment, your vet will likely want to shave around the affected lesion, clean it, and possible obtain some impression smears and cytology to assess the cause. Antibiotics (topical and/or systemic) and anti-inflammatory medication may be useful depending on the findings. Hope this helps!

Small white bump on my dogs nose has gotten larger in the last two weeks. It just appeared about 3 weeks ago. It does not seem to hurt him, but I am not sure what it is. He is a Husky/great Pyranees mix, 1.5 years old
Since the growth is on the nose, it would be best to bring Quinn into your vet for care. Tumors, fungal infections, abrasions, burns, etc can all cause signs like you are seeing, and since some are more serious issues, should be seen and treated, especially if the area is growing rapidly in size. Your vet can take a scraping or biopsy from the area to check under a microscope and see what is going on.
