What is this soft, puffy growth between my senior dog's paw toes?

Hi my name is Bruce. I have a 13 year old adopted pitbull, staffordshire/ He started growing this blister in between his toes on his paw. In the past few weeks it has grown quickly. its very soft and puffy not hard like a tumor. Can you tell what it is? i know he needs medical attention but with this pandemic, I am the only one working so money is extremely tight.

Hi Bruce! I’m sorry Gus had a growth there. It could be something like a cyst but in a dog his age, there is a chance it could be something serious like a malignant tumor. This really does have to be checked out by a vet, especially since it is growing quickly. Since money is tight, maybe you can ask your vet about a payment plan for him. I would take him into a vet on Monday. I hope this helps.

Unfortunately without seeing Ray in person, there is no way I can diagnose what this growth is on his foot. In a senior dog, however, I would be concerned that it would be cancerous. It could also be a benign growth. The best thing to do is having him seen by a vet on Monday. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the growth to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. The vet most likely will want to remove it, and that will be a surgical procedure to do this, but only your vet can make the best treatment decision for Ray. I'd make an appointment for him for tomorrow. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Thank you for using Boop by Petco! It is definitely concerning that the lump has increased in size so quickly, as older dogs are typically more likely to develop cancers. The lump can also be an infection or cyst. I recommend having this seen by a vet as soon as possible - they can take a small sample from the growth to determine exactly what it is and recommend the appropriate treatment. I hope all is well!

my 10 year old boxer has a large red lump on the top of his right back paw. It is between the toes back away from his nails. You can touch it and he does not show signs of pain but it looks like it would hurt. What could it be?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This could be a benign or malignant growth. There is no way of knowing what it is just based on its appearance. Common tumors in this region include melanomas, squamous cell carcinomas, mast cell tumors and soft tissue sarcomas, among others. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Zac is an eight year old dog, and growths can occur as a normal part of aging. Sebaceous glands produce sebum, and if it becomes clogged, a cyst will form. Any suspicious growth should be examined by a vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. I would have Zac seen by a vet today or tomorrow. The vet can diagnose what is causing the growth and if it needs to be removed. Should it need to be removed, the vet will do it surgically.

Hello, I noticed a mass on the knuckle area of my senior dog's paw. It is the size of a small gumball. Should I be worried?
Even though a picture would help to understand better the underlying cause, this kind of lump/growth needs to be ideally assessed by your veterinarian to have a definitive and specific answer. Usually there are two ways your vet can do that a part from examining it directly during physical examination. A biopsy can be taken under local or general anesthetic, otherwise a smaller sample through a fine needle can be aspirated (this technique is called FNA= fine needle aspiration). Differentials include skin cysts, infections, benign or more sinister type of tumors. My almost 3 year old dog has developed this growth on the top of her paw next right at her toe . It’s red and looks as if it’s scabbing. What sound it be?
This may be an abscess, a cyst or a tumor. You should have it examined by your veterinarian, as it is not possible to distinguish these by just looking at a photo. An abscess can usually be treated with antibiotics and/or be lanced, and a cyst can be evacuated. To identify a tumor, your vet may want to do a fine needle aspirate (he takes some material from the bump with a needle and then looks at it under the microscope) to determine whether the mass is concerning.

My dog has a mass on her paw
Ouch! With any new growth like this, it's best to have your vet take a look in person, as it isn't really possible to determine what is causing the growth just from a photo. Your vet can take a sample of the growth as needed with a fine-needle aspirate, or biopsy, to check what cell type is present and if the spot needs further attention. Other causes can be calluses from rubbing, scabbing from a wound or infection under the skin, or other issues. Until you can get to the vet, it's best to keep the area clean and dry and prevent Ginger from licking or chewing at it with an Elizabethan (cone) collar or sock over the spot. Monitoring it for any additional changes such as size, oozing debris, pain, etc, is also a good idea as these observations can help your vet narrow down the cause and best treatment plan.

As long as she is eating and drinking normally, otherwise behaving normally, and is going to the bathroom normally, I would not say this is an emergency. It can wait until the morning to have her seen by a vet. In a senior dog, this growth could potentially be a malignant tumor, but it could also be a benign tumor. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it.
