Dog's tail tip hard, scabby, hurts. Could it be a wagging injury?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 9 months and 23 days old | 55 lbs

The tip of my dogs tail is very hard and it looks like there’s a big scab attached to it. If you touch it a certain way, she acts like it hurts her. She is a very happy dog, and wags her tail very intently, hitting it on everything. Maybe that could be it? Just making sure it’s nothing bad. Thanks.

If Sadie wags her tail a lot and hits things with it, yes that certainly could cause damage to her tail and the big scab. What worries me is that she does act like it hurts her when you touch it a certain way. To be safe, I'd have it checked out by a vet. It's not an emergency, but I would see if you can get her into the vet in the next couple of days. I hope this helps!
