What's the best way to clean a minor dog bite wound on my dog?

My dog got bit by another dog. There's a small abrasion, but it doesn't look to serious. What should I clean it with?

Poor Louis. I would gently clean his wound with warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep him from licking at it, you can put an Ecollar on him. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and he will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps!

An older dog with no illness got aggressive with my puppy and bit him, small cuts on his face stopped bleeding after a few minutes and he is not acting lethargic or anything. He was able to eat and drink shortly after and went outside with no issues.

In these cases the most appropriate disinfection depends upon the location of the wound. Generally speaking disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching. Please give us more informations about the wound and possibly attach a pic on another question on the forum so we can give more specific advices.

Poor guy. The fluid that you describe certainly sounds like infection. I would try to schedule a sooner appt with your regular vet to get Louie on another stronger type of antibiotic to help resolve this. For now you can flush the area with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water to help reduce the bacteria load until you can get him seen by your vet. He should be able to heal well after changing antibiotics. Best wishes with Louie moving forward. Take care.

A dog bit him and he keeps licking it. What can i do?
I am sorry to hear about Brob. A bite wound should be seen by a veterinarian ASAP. Unfortunately mouths contain a good number of bacteria and we usually want to put the bitten dog on an antibiotic. The vet can clean and flush the wound (sometimes once we see them the damage is worse than initially thought because fur hides a lot!), and give the appropriate medication. In the meantime, discourage licking by using an e-collar or t-shirt depending on the location of the wound. If the wound wasn't cleaned, you can use a mild soap or pick up a product called hibiclens at the drug store to clean the area well until he sees the vet.

I would clean it with either Betadine or Chlorhexidine solution (diluted 1:10 with water). Try to flush the solution down into the hole. I would do that twice daily, dry it thoroughly after cleaning and then you can apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment like Neosporin.
