Hi My 7 month old dachshund/rat terrier mix, Porter, developed 2 hard bumps on his snout and one opened up today. I couldn’t get in to see the vet for 2 weeks. Can you tell me what you think it is and if there’s anything I should be doing in the meantime? They don’t seem to bother him. I have a picture but can’t figure out how to attach it.

Hi and thanks for your request. These spots are likely to be localised skin infection, most likely fungal or bacterial. An immediate check up would be needed to confirm these suspicion and as appropriate disinfection, and antibiotics (in a oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub (1:5) baths twice daily. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any scratching if any.
