My puppy lost baby teeth and won't eat. What should I do for her?

Losing teeth can be painful for a puppy. Unfortunately there are no OTC pain relievers you can give her, as many human ones are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. There are teething toys you can buy for Gucci at a pet store, and I recommend ones that can be frozen. Once it's frozen, you give it to her and she can chew on it, giving her relief. If you are concerned she is really painful, then I would take her into a vet today. The vet can prescribe pain relief as needed. I hope this helps!

Of course, they can experience some tenderness of the gums during teething but usually not of the level that would stop them from eating. I would try soaking the kibble in warm water before feeding and see if he will eat the softened kibble. I would watch Eli very closely today and if he is reluctant to eat, get him to your veterinarian as soon as possible. He could have something else going on such as fever, pain, infection, inflammation, intestinal parasites, among other things. Your vet can gather a history, perform an examination and then advise you on diagnostic/treatment plans. Treatment would be based on clinical findings and the results of any tests. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Bailey. Not eating can be a sign of pain in a dog. I would start giving her the medication and see if her appetite improves. If not, then she will need to see a veterinarian to determine the cause of her decreased appetite. You can try adding warm water to her dry kibble or you can offer warmed canned food. I'm sorry to hear that, what an ordeal for both of you! He is listed as 2 months and 25 days old. If that is accurate, or even if he's less than 6 months old, the "baby" tooth was likely loose, and the adult canine tooth will come in around 5-7 months of age. If he seems painful in his mouth, offer him canned or other soft food for a few days. You can also give him a cold teething toy such as a Kong that you keep in the freezer, Or let him chew on a frozen waffle or even on some ice. The cool will help soothe his mouth if it is sore. Please do not give King any human pain medications, many are toxic to puppies and can be fatal if given. There are a number of chew toys you can get for him at a pet store, including ones you can freeze that will help numb his gums . You can also soak a washcloth and freeze it, and then give it to him to chew on. If you do this, you must monitor him closely while doing it. I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! In my experience teething in dogs is not painful. Chewing on things is normal puppy behavior that they grow out of. If Guido is acting painful in his mouth then it is unlikely from teething. We do not recommend human pain medications for dogs and cats. They do not metabolize the drugs like we do and cause gastrointestinal upset and/or ulceration and can cause kidney and liver problems. We have safer pain medications that are approved for dogs. I recommend contacting your Vet if you truly believe he has oral pain since it is not typical for normal teething. I hope this helps and good luck!

My dog just had a tooth extraction 8 hours ago. She's been crying ever since I brought her home. I don't know what to do to help her.
It could be that Chlie is in pain from the tooth extraction, but unfortunately there are no safe OTC human pain medications you can give. Many of them are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. I would give your vet a call right away to get some pain medications for her. If you can't reach your vet, I would take her into a pet ER to be seen.

You He's half Chihuahua and pitbull (weird I know) but he's starting to lose his teeth and one of his front fangs, canine I guess is loose now and he's been whiny and hesitant on what he'll eat, it's been loose for only like 30 minutes
I'm so sorry that Smokey's teeth seem to be causing him some discomfort. Based on his age, however, this may be completely normal. It is common for dogs to loose their baby canine teeth around 5-6 months, so it sounds like he is right on schedule for having that tooth fall out. You can let him chew on a cold washcloth to see if that helps give him some comfort. You can also soften his food with warm water if he seems reluctant to eat because of his baby teeth. That being said, if it is his adult tooth that is loose, he needs to be seen by your vet as soon as possible. Also, if the baby tooth that is loose is at all discolored or broken, I would take him to your vet as well as it could be infected and could cause damage to the adult tooth. Is there anything I can give my puppy for teething pain? He has a loose tooth that hasn’t fallen out yet and he’s biting everything, including my ear, and slobbering.
Poor puppy! Soak a wash cloth in cold water and freeze it. Then give it to him, but make sure to watch him closely the whole time. There are also toys you can get from the pet store that can be frozen and then given to him to help with teeth pain. Do NOT give him any human pain medications, many are toxic to puppies and can be fatal if given. Speak to his vet about prescribing him safe pain medications. I hope this helps!

Unfortunately there are no OTC medications you can give Mia for pain and fever. Many human ones are toxic to dogs, and can be fatal if given. You can put a cold compress on her head to see if that helps the fever. You will need to have her seen by a vet for these problems.
