My dog is pooping mucus with no other symptoms. Is this normal?

Why is my dog pooping mucus? She isn’t vomiting. She is not unusually tired. She had pooped regularly twice before she started pooping a yellow, jelly-like substance. It just began today. It seems like she has an upset stomach but I am not sure why her last 2 poops have just been mucus.

Poor mucus can be normal! Mucus is made by the intestines to keep the lining of the colon lubricated and moist and is perfectly healthy. As long as there are no other issues with Ellie, this is likely not a worry. I think I see some normal poop under the mucus in the picture. For now, I'd just keep an eye on her. I hope this helps!

Usually, you need not worry about seeing a small amount of mucus in your pet's stool. Dog stool normally contains some mucus -- a slime-like substance made by the intestines to keep the lining of the colon lubricated and moist. But if you notice an excessive amount of mucus in the stool, or if it is accompanied with blood or a radical change in your dog's bowel movements, seek immediate veterinary medical attention. He or she will be better able to identify the underlying cause and recommend a proper course of treatment. Common causes include: Stress Dietary indiscretion Intestinal parasites (e.g., giardia) Bacterial overgrowth (e.g., Salmonella) Tumors and/or polyps (e.g., rectoanal polyps) Inflammation of the colon or rectum Narrowing of the rectal opening Constipation and other conditions which may it more difficult to defecate.

This can be normal, and it can be common to see a bit of mucous at the end of the poop. I'd only be concerned if there is blood as well in Luna's poop, she's having diarrhea, and/or vomiting. I hope this helps!

Luna's poop has mucous after she was dewormed this Saturday. Is this common?
There is always some mucus in stool. It aids in defecation. An increased amount can be due to some inflammation in the intestine. If she had intestinal parasites and was recently treated, this could be the cause. If she is behaving normally, you can monitor her at home. Consider a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until the stool is normal then transition slowly to her regular diet. Symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian include lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain.

I have a 2 yr old boberman bitch, she is full off beans and her usual self, but she has just pooped and its not normal. I havnt changed her food so i dont think its that. I just wanted to know if i should be worried.
I am sorry to hear about your concern for Riley. If she is acting otherwise normal I would just continue to monitor her bowel movements and appetite/energy level. If she continues to have these mucous covered poops, then a visit to her vet may be necessary, they may want to test her for intestinal parasites or put her on medicaiton if the think she could have something like colitis which can cause this type of stool. You can try a probiotic such as Purina Forti Flora at home, but if it continues or she develops vomiting, anorexia or lethargy she should visit her vet.

I noticed my dogs poop had a ton of mucus on it ? What does that mean? This is the first it’s been like this
This means that something in the colon or rectum maybe irritating the lining and the mucus-producing cells start producing more mucus (to lubricate the gut) than necessary. Parasites such as whipworms, tapeworms, and other intestinal parasites can also cause mucus in the stool. It may be a good idea to take a fresh stool sample to your vet for a fecal test.

Is this a normal a presence of mucus? My dog as normal solid stools and never much mucus, but I found this today and that’s the first time I’ve seen that. Is this normal? Should I be concerned?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This is fine and nothing to be concerned about. There is always going to be some degree of mucus in the stools so as long as it does not turn into diarrhea, there is no need to necessarily be concerned about this. Good luck and have a great day!

I took my dog to the vet yesterday because he has been throwing up a lot and had diarrhea. They gave him an anti nausea shot and some metronidazole. My dog is more energetic, but something I'm concerned about is that he has been pooping a lot of mucu
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Mucus in the stool is commonly seen with colitis which is what the metronidazole is for. I think that this is ok for now as his diarrhea is likely improving after starting the medications. Good luck and have a great day!

Grace is healthy with all her vaccine up-to-date, I had her dewormed a month ago, recently her poop is coated with mucus like substance, what does it mean? Is she unhealthy?
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Mucous in the stool indicates inflammation with in the colon. It can be from many reasons: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infection, she ate something gross outside, food allergy intolerance, or a reaction to a new food/treat or people food. One stool episode with mucous may be a one time thing. If it continues or she develops diarrhea bring a stool sample to your Vet and start a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day until 2 normal stools. If that doesn't help then she should see your Vet for an exam and medications. I wish Grave the best!

My dachshund has an upset tummy (I can hear/feel it) and just pooped some mucus... she didn't eat this morning which is rare, but she is acting normal otherwise. What can I do, should I be worried?
Poor Calli! Since she is feeling pretty well overall I would pull up her regular food and feed her only a very bland diet of boiled skinless chicken and white rice. If the mucus in the stool is continuing despite this after 24 hours then you can make an appointment with your vet and bring in a sample of the stool for parasite testing. They can prescribe medication if necessary.

I’m not sure which of my dogs is pooping like this but I was wondering if this is normal or not? Does it seem like it could have worms? If so, what kind of worms?
That looks like mucus rather than worms. It is not normal and is caused by irritation in the colon for some reason. I'd recommend feeding each dog a bit of glitter or crayon shards with their normal food (easiest with canned food, or their kibble moistened with water) and note which color you give you which pup, and see who ends up producing the abnormal stool sample, so you can take them to the vet.
