My dog's Brevecto isn't working. Can I use a topical flea treatment?

I used breve to on my 100lb Rhodesian Ridgeback one month ago, but it’s not working. Can i give a topical treatment such as Adventix now?

Yes, it's fine to give Asali a topical treatment such as Adventix now. You can also give her Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas in 30 minutes and is safe to give along with a topical treatment. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash her bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. I hope this helps!

I'm not sure what flea treatments you have used, so I apologize if I give you ones that you have previously tried. I personally like Revolution and Advantage, so I would use one of them. You can get them from your vet. You can also give Baby Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas in 30 minutes and is safe to give with the spot on treatments (Revolution and Advantage). Keep in mind that you need to treat the environment as well, as fleas live in the environment, not on the dog. They only jump on the dog to feed, and then jump off. Wash her bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. I put a soresto flea collar on my dog that doesn't seem to be working. Can i put activyl topical on him as well?
No, it's not recommended to combine those. Take the Seresto collar off, and I can give you a flea treatment program for Indi. First, I would give him Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes. Then follow up with a spot on treatment, such as Advantage or Revolution. This is a treatment that has to be used once a month. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash his bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home.

I used Advantix on my dog last month and again last weekend. It is not working. Is it safe to give him Nexguard so soon after the last Advantix application? (5 days ago)
I’m sorry it’s not working! I would give Bruzer Capstar. It’s a one time pill that starts killing fleas in 30 minutes, and it’s safe to give now. Give it once a day until it’s been a week since you applied the Advantix, and then give him the Nexgard. Also be sure to disinfect your home, as fleas live in the environment, not on the dog. Wash his bedding in hot and soapy water, and vacuum all the carpets and furniture. Use a spray like Indorex or a flea bomb to kill all the fleas in the house. I hope this helps!

I gave my dog Frontline Tritax 3 days ago. We believe it was expired. My dog is still covered with fleas. Can I treat her with K9 Advantix 2?
It's too soon to repeat a spot on flea treatment. You have to wait at least two weeks between them. You can give Lyra Capstar now. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas in 30 minutes, and it's safe to use. Keep in mind as well that fleas live in the environment, not on the animal, so you need to disinfect your home as well. Wash her bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. We found fleas on both dogs. I gave them frontline yesterday. Two hours after I gave that my wife gave them a bath. Should I reapply flea killer?
Dogs are not supposed to get wet for at least 24 hours after application of a topical flea medication, and more than likely it was washed off during the bath. You can reapply the flea treatment, and I would give them Capstar given you have seen fleas. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes, and it's safe to be given at the same time as the spot on treatment. Just as a note, I would not recommend using Frontline. In my experience (and from the experience of many colleagues), there is a resistance to Frontline, and you may not get the best results from it. I recommend using Advantage or Revolution instead. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash their bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home.

What is the best way to kill fleas on dog besides using Dawn dish soap or flea shampoo? Anytime that I use the topical flea treatments they seem like they don't want to work.
Hi there. There are several oral (by mouth) medications for fleas and ticks in our pets available now which work wonderfully, as well as Seresto collars (which can provide up to 8 months of protection!) My favorite oral medications are Nexgard and Bravecto, and are usually the ones I recommend to my clients first. All of these medications are available through your local veterinary office. Please do not feed garlic to your dog, it can cause blood disease in dogs! Here are instructions for flea prevention: Unfortunately fleas only hop on the body of your pet when they want to feed, then they hop off again and stay in your pet's environment. So you need to treat all pets in the household as well as the environment (which contains the fleas, their eggs and larvae). Flea treatment:  1) Get some flea medication such as a Flea spray or a spot on from a pet shop or your veterinarian and apply monthly 2) get flea powder, put some in your vacuum cleaner bag and vacuum your house and furniture and also non-carpeted areas frequently to remove flea larvae and eggs which live off house dust., Dispose of the bag in the trash outside. Hot-wash all the pet's bedding, If you do this diligently for a few months you will get rid of the fleas. I have a toy poodle that weighs 6.5 lbs. She is inside. Only goes out to potty. she has gotten fleas. I just gave her the 4th capstar pill over the last month. Is it safe to also use k9 advantix topical treatment on her? If so how long should I wait?
You can use both products on the same day so it is fine to start the Advantix at any time. There are better products that Advantix. Top products for dogs are oral products such as Simparica and Nexgard. Top products for cats are topicals such as Revolution and Cheristan. There is also an oral product called Comfortis that both dogs and cats can take. You will need to switch all the pets over to a good flea product. Make sure to discuss these products with your veterinarian first. These products are generally safe for all pets but there are some conditions which are contraindicated for the oral products. Cleaning up and treating the house and yard will also help but it will not clear all the fleas. The main control is making sure the pets are on good products. This is what will ultimately stop the infestation. Also remember every female fleas lays about 50 eggs a day and it could take up to 6 months before the eggs hatch. You can use Capstar to kill any adult fleas on her. Since she was recently washed though, you will need to wait 2-3 days before applying a topical preventative. The oils in her skin need to build up to effectively spread the topical flea preventative. Capstar can be given daily if you are seeing adult fleas. In the meantime, wash all bedding and vacuum everywhere. Empty the canister or toss the vacuum bag away outdoors immediately afterwards. You can use an area treatment in the house, such as Knockout ES (by Virbac), to prevent reinfestation. Use a monthly preventative for at least 3 consecutive months, but preferably year round.
