My dog ate a chocolate cupcake wrapper. Should I be worried about her?

My 5 pound pomeranian got a chocolate cupcake wrapper and licked it clean. She might have eaten some of the wrapper too.

No need to worry! Licking the wrapper won't be enough chocolate to cause Hazel any problems. Even eating a bit of the wrapper is not a worry. This should dissolve in her stomach acid and pass without issue. You don't need to do anything. I hope this helps!

There is so little chocolate in Reeses, and even less sticks to the wrapper, that you do not have to worry about chocolate intoxication. Just make sure it did not eat a big wrapper, as it may cause an intestinal obstruction.

My dog ate a paper muffin wrapper.Will she pass it or should I make her vomit?
She should be able to pass it on her own. Monitor for lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, abdominal pain or straining to defecate. These are symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian.

Hello, My puppy just ate a Hershey’s kiss (chocolate and wrapper)! He’s 13 lbs. Can we/do we need to do anything?
Well that wasn't good of Winston to eat that Hershey's kiss! The good news is that one is not likely to cause any problems. It's very small and doesn't contain enough chocolate to cause any toxic symptoms. He should be fine, so I wouldn't do anything for him except monitor him to be safe. You potentially could see some mild GI upset, but otherwise he should be fine. Keep him away from the kisses in the future! Thanks for contacting Pet Coach!

Hi there. Such a small amount of chocolate (especially milk chocolate, which doesn't contain much cocoa) should not be enough to cause any significant issues - so no need to worry :) It's possible that Cupcake might have a mild upset stomach if she isn't used to eating "people food" like this, but otherwise she should be just fine.

My boxer (about 55 lbs) licked some cocao powder (not cocoa) from a mixture in a cup. She just licked the sides, but definitely had some. I’m worried about her. She is sleeping, but her stomach is rumbling.
It is unlikely that your dog ate enough cacao powder to actually get intoxicated. He would have to eat 1 oz or more (at least 4 of those packets)of the powder in order to get a problem. So you do not have to worry.

I can understand being worried. Xylitol is highly toxic to dogs. The xylitol itself would be in the chocolate and if the wrapper was empty, then she wouldn’t have ingested any xylitol. She will likely be fine. If she was to get sick, you’d see signs of toxicity within 15-30 minutes of ingestion.

My dog ate the wrapping of a Dove chocolate candy. I heard it can really hurt him. Is there anything I can do to help him?
If he only ate the one wrapper, I wouldn't worry too much. The foil isn't stiff enough or large enough to block or cause damage as it moves through. If it has been less than an hour since your pet ate it, you can induce vomiting by giving an oral dose of hydrogen peroxide, about 1 cc per pound. One tablespoon is about 5 cc. A turkey baster will work if you don't have a syringe. Longer than an hour and it will have already moved into the intestines. Keep an eye on him for a few days to make sue he's okay and watch his feces for evidence that it has come out.

My 11 lb dog might have eaten 1 reeses peanut butter cup. Should I be worried? Her belly is broken out, but it has rashed like this before. I caught her licking a piece of the brown reeses cup wrapper.
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Luna. One Reeces cup likely does not contain enough chocolate to cause toxicity based on her size. It can, however, cause gastrointestinal upset or even a more serious condition known as pancreatitis. If she develops vomiting or diarrhea, then she should see her veterinarian. If she is allergic to any of the ingredients, inflamed skin could result. That being said, her skin changes could be the result of something else especially if it has happened before. You can bathe her with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner such as an oatmeal or fatty acid based formula to soothe the skin. If this does not help, then she should see her veterinarian. Thank you for contacting Pet Coach with your question about Molly! Half of a paper cupcake holder isn't very big, and the paper itself should break down in her stomach. Given the small amount she ate, I would suspect this would pass without problem, but because she has some mild megacolon I would keep a close eye on her. If she starts having trouble passing feces or develops other signs such as vomiting, anorexia, or lethargy, then I would take her into the vet. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
