My dog threw up twice after eating. Could it be the foam brush he ate?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Male | unneutered | 1 year old | 70 lbs

Diesel has puked twice today after his meal. We are unsure why. I have attached pictures of his puke. He has been eating the same food for a month now. We didn’t see him eat anything out of the ordinary today. The only thing we can think of is him chewing a small foam paint brush while we weren’t looking mid-yesterday (wasn’t a concern because he has chewed worse things before). He ate fine last night and didn’t puke. His stool is completely fine as well and he acts normally. What’s happening?

Poor Diesel. It definitely looks like there is kibble in his vomit. It may be he has some stomach upset. I can give you a home remedy for him to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he refuses to eat the bland diet, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. I hope this helps!
