Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 13 years old | 14 lbs
My 13 year old chi weenie died a few days ago. I’m having a hard time. In a month she went from being like a young dog to losing weight then last week not eating, a bad odor, being lethargic. vomited once a week before she died, then was fine, the side of her face swelled but went down. She wasn’t in pain vet said not to bring her in since she was elderly. She died in sleep. I keep thinking I could have done more. Is it normal for an elderly dog to decline so fast and die?

First off, I'm so sorry you lost Ellie suddenly. I know how hard it is to lose a beloved animal, and it's such an upsetting time. Please accept my condolences for your loss. Yes, this can happen. It can be common that an elderly dog declines suddenly out of nowhere, and their loss is a shock to the owner. Sometimes dogs can be sick and won't show any signs until they are extremely sick and close to dying. I know this won't take away your pain, but I hope this helps.
