My dog pooped a worm. Should I be worried or use an OTC dewormer?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 8 months and 14 days old | 52 lbs

Hi! My dog is a Labrador retrievers and he is 8 months old. Up to date on all vaccinations but not yet neutered. Today we found a worm about the length of my finger in his stool, and wanted to do if this should be of concern or if we just need to purchase over the counter de worming medication? Attached are 2 pictures of the worm and one of the dog in question. Thank you!

That looks like a roundworm! You can buy an over the counter dewormer like Bayer to treat Parker Lee. Give him one dose now and another in two weeks to kill all the worms. After that, he should be dewormed every three months. I hope this helps!

It sounds like Tilly may have roundworms. This is easily treated with a dewormer such as Bayer which you can get over the counter. Give her a dose now, and then another in two weeks to kill all the worms. After that, she should be dewormed every three months. I hope this helps!
