Diabetic chihuahua has a bloated belly and diarrhea. Should I worry?

my diabetic chihuahua seems to have a bloated belly, a lot of stomach noise and diarrhea she ate her dinner fine should i be concerned ? just put our one cat to sleep tonight and am not thinking clearly

First off, I'm so sorry you had to put your cat to sleep tonight. I did this recently with both a cat and dog, and completely understand the pain you are in. Given that Daphne ate her dinner fine, she may just have stomach upset. Keep an eye on her tonight and if she has diarrhea in the morning and still appears bloated, have her seen by a vet. I hope this helps.

If you think Flower's belly is bloated / enlarged, I would have a veterinarian examine her and have x-rays taken of her abdomen. Things that would make a belly distend range from fluid in the abdomen, large amounts of gas (bloat) and tumors. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Poor Princess! The diarrhea and upset stomach could be due to many conditions including eating something she shouldn’t have, bacterial over growth, parasites or even organ disease. With continued diarrhea, there are often bacterial shifts in the gut that will make matters worse regardless of the initial cause. Make sure to bring in a sample of fresh stool. The doctor will check her for parasites and bacterial over growth. Many times a bland diet can help and then a slow, gradual introduction to the normal food can be done. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. A good diet in general is Royal Canin. It is low residue and highly digestible. I think it's a good idea to keep your appointment tomorrow. I hope Princess starts feeling better quickly! Please feel free to post any additional questions!

Hopefully it's nothing. If she ate something she shouldn't have, has excessive gas/diarrhea or ate a large meal, you could see this. I advise to keep a very close eye on her. Watch for any signs of illness or discomfort and if these are seen, I recommend to get her into the veterinarian asap as a hard stomach can be an indicator of serious GI issues. The change in diet could lead the diarrhea and larger belly if Appa is eating it really fast. Keep an eye on her for now. If you see vomiting, the diarrhea continues over the next 24 hours, she becomes lethargic, or she stops eating, have her seen by a vet. I hope this helps!

Sounds like there is something going on causing Lacy severe GI distress. Suddenly switching foods, feeding people food, and withholding food in an odd schedule can definitely lead to GI distress, illness, or even issues such as bloat or pancreatitis. Since she is vomiting everything up and won't eat, and is also having diarrhea, it is best to seek out veterinary care ASAP for her.

Poor girl. She may have an overly full stomach or potentially an enlarged organ. It is really hard to say for sure without an exam. Pets this small don't get bloat, so that is not a concern. Based on her symptoms of just seeming uncomfortable, I would let her rest tonight and then if she still seems out of sorts in the morning, it is best to get her seen by your vet. The vet needs to feel her belly to try and pinpoint the source of pain and discomfort so that we best know how to treat this moving forward. She sounds uncomfortable but stable for now and so the best thing is to make her comfortable with nice soft bedding let her try and rest until morning. If she will tolerate a warm Epsoms salt soaking bath, then you can also try that. However, if she does seem to pace and develop more symptoms (vomiting, restlessness, diarrhea, etc) tonight, then its best to take her to an ER vet for further evaluation. Cat food tends to be higher in fat and calories than dog food and could cause an upset stomach. If Oreo ate enough cat food he could also have 'food bloat' where the stomach becomes distended with food and causes discomfort. If he is not vomiting and does not seem painful he may not require any veterinary care. If you think his stomach is distended with food frequent short walks could help everything move through his gastrointestinal tract. If he does begin vomiting, if he misses more than one meal, or if he becomes painful you will probably need to see a veterinarian.

Poor girl. An obstruction is always on the list when a dog, particularly a young dog, is vomiting, however, because this ordeal started with diarrhea first and she's only vomited once, an obstruction is much less likely. Feeding her rice was a great idea, and since the diarrhea is ongoing and it's been more than 24 hours, I would recommend a vet visit in the morning. You only need to take her to an emergency clinic if she's very lethargic, or the diarrhea/vomiting is very frequent (more than every 2-3 hours), or you feel like something is just not right. As far as possible causes, there are quite a few, but it includes intestinal parasites, gut irritation from dietary indiscretion, and less likely would be a metabolic or endocrine issue starting up. My chihuahua has had loose stool for 3 days. She threw up her food yesterday and today. I don't know what is wrong.
Poor Alaina! She could have an infection, parasite, upset stomach from something she ate, pancreatitis, etc. If she is otherwise acting normal, then you could withhold food for the day and see if the vomiting and diarrhea resolves. If so, then feed a small amount of a bland diet, boiled chicken and white rice, this afternoon and see how she does. Continue feeding the bland diet for a few days and then slowly transition back to her old food. If the vomiting/diarrhea continues then she needs to be examined by a vet for treatment. Your vet can run lab-work to help diagnose and then prescribe medications to treat. Hope she feels better soon.

Symptoms like this can be related to pain in the back or pain in the pancreas. Even though she is acting normal, the tense areas indicate there is some discomfort and I recommend to have her examined by her veterinarian. The doctor may recommend radiographs to check the spine or a blood test to check the pancreas. Both conditions should be treated to alleviate pain.
