My dog is lethargic, depressed, and has bloody stool. Should I take him to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Male | neutered | 80 lbs

I am wondering if I should take my dog into the vet. He has not been his normal self and is lethargic almost depressed like. I am also wondering if this is mucus or a blood clot in his stool ?

It looks like he has both mucous and some blood in his stool, possibly some foreign material too. If he is acting lethargic/depressed then it would be a good idea to have him examined by your vet to determine the cause and treat. He could have an infection, parasite, gastritis/enteritis from eating something, pancreatitis, etc. Your vet can run bloodwork, fecal test, and x-rays, if needed, to help diagnose and treat. In the meantime, offer him a bland diet of boiled chicken and white rice and see if that helps. Hope he feels better soon!
