My puppy is throwing up repeatedly. When should I take her to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cocker Spaniel | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 2 days old

Hi, my puppy has vomited about 10 times in the last hour, at first she was throwing up her food whole, then it was just vomit then it was just white phlegm. I’m not sure if she had maybe eaten something outside and she’s sleeping now. Do I need to take her see a vet?

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I would suggest to monitor Lola at home for the next 2-3hrs. Please, do not offer her anything to eat or drink till 11pm and then try and give her small amount of water. If she drinks it and keeps it down, you can offer her small amount of bland food (for example cooked piece of chicken). If she eats it, you should offer her more bland food and water in the morning. However, if she continues to vomit or passes liquid diarrhea, you should take her to your local emergency service tonight. Vomiting in such a young puppy is usually related to gastrointestinal infection, worms, food indiscretion, feeding errors.
