My dog has a stomach lump and scratch. Should I take him to the vet?

Hello! My dog has what I would call a scratch (abrasion maybe?) by his penis. He also has a lump on his stomach. I'm not sure if the scratch is from his scratching his stomach or not. I just noticed both today and would like to know if I need to go to the vet.

Thank you for providing pictures, they are very helpful! I see what you mean about the scratch but it doesn't look infected so I would leave it be for now. As for the lump, I'm having trouble seeing it in the picture, but I do think it's worth getting checked out by a vet. Call his vet tomorrow to make him an appointment. I hope this helps!

Hello there from across the pond! Lumps and bumps on older dogs are fairly typical and are to be expected with an older pet. By and large, lumps and bumps that are round, smooth, and/or freely movable generally speaking are not causes for alarm. However, lumps and bumps that become red, inflamed, warm to the touch, itchy, have rough edges, are rapidly growing, or have discharge coming from them need to be looked at by a veterinarian and have them assessed. Regardless, I would recommend your veterinarian take a look at Chester and take small sample of the small mass he has and look at it under a microscope. From there, your vet can determine the nature of the mass and if it is concerning. You may also discuss surgical removal of the small mass if that is recommended by your vet. I hope this has helped!

My dog doesnt feel good. We suspect that his belly hurts. He doesnt want to go outside. He is weak. Yesterday he vomitted and his heart beated really weakly. He has a bump under his tale bus it doesnt hurt.
Hi, and thanks for your question. These signs could be compatible with an inflammation infection of the gastrointestinal system and surrounding organs (like pancreas and liver). A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is immediately essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics and possibly further investigations (like abdominal imaging as ultrasound or radiographs) may be needed. Although a picture of the lump would help to determine the underlying cause more specifically, generally speaking this needs to be ideally assessed by your veterinarian to have a definitive and specific answer. Usually there are two ways your vet can do that a part from examining it directly during physical examination. A biopsy can be taken under local or general anesthetic, otherwise a smaller sample through a fine needle can be aspirated (this technique is called FNA= fine needle aspiration). My pup is 1 year old. She has a pea sized red blister looking thing that grew recently on her belly. It was soft at first and is harder now. It doesn’t not seem to bother her. Do I need to go to my vet or wait a few weeks and see if it goes away?

It is hard to say just by looking at the photo. My recommendation would be to take her to your vet to have it checked. If it is a histiocytoma it may go away on it's own within a few weeks to months. This lump/growth should be ideally examined by your veterinarian to have a definitive diagnosis. Your vet will examine it and possibly perform with an FNA (fine needle aspiration) or a biopsy. Differentials would include skin cyst, infections or benign or malignant type of tumors. My dog has a small bump/pimple on his stomach and I’d like to know if based on the photo, it’s something I should look into further and could be a concern.
I would get that checked to be safe. It looks a little like a staph infection or, more concerning, ringworm. Ringworm tends to be itchy and spreads and is highly contagious to other pets and people in the household. Your vet will do an exam and some labwork to determine the cause and based on those results will be better able to tell you what is going on and the best course of treatment.

To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. My dog has a bump on her stomach and I’m not sure if I should be worried. I shaved the hair off around it so I was able to see it better. It is not bothering her at all, but I want to make sure everything is okay.
This looks like either a puncture wound or an insect bite, i would recommend monitoring it for the next 2-3 weeks, if you think it does not get any better you should take her to the vet in order to get it checked and treated.

Hello. Thank you for using Boop by Petco. So sorry that Lucky is having this issue. It is very difficult to see the lump on the abdomen from the photos. I suggest you take her to a vet to have that examined in person. It is almost impossible to tell what a lump is just by feeling it or seeing it. Most of the time testing needs to be done to figure it out. Lumps can be abscesses (infection), hernias, tumors (cancer) or cysts. Your vet will need to help you figure it out. Best wishes.
