Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Princess and for providing pictures, they are very helpful. Yes, this lump may be concerning as she is a senior dog and there is a chance it could be malignant. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. Give her vet a call in the morning to get her an appointment. I hope this helps!

The lump can also be an infection or cyst. Hello, I noticed a mass on the knuckle area of my senior dog's paw. It is the size of a small gumball. Should I be worried?
Even though a picture would help to understand better the underlying cause, this kind of lump/growth needs to be ideally assessed by your veterinarian to have a definitive and specific answer. Usually there are two ways your vet can do that a part from examining it directly during physical examination. A biopsy can be taken under local or general anesthetic, otherwise a smaller sample through a fine needle can be aspirated (this technique is called FNA= fine needle aspiration). Differentials include skin cysts, infections, benign or more sinister type of tumors. This does appear to be a tumor/mass- it may be benign or malignant. I cannot tell just by looking at it and neither will your vet. They will have to do an aspirate of the mass to collect some cells to look at them under the microscope. This is a good screening test to see what type of mass this is.

Any advice on this pink cauliflower type lump i just discovered on my 14 year old, long haired English terrier x he is limping slightly on his front right paw, and he just lost his best mate to bone cancer this week

Our baby Layla is nearing 7yrs old female pug. I noticed that there is a lump of flesh that grew in between her paws (left-front feet). Is this a red flag? Please help. Thank you for the valuable opinion.
I recommend getting this checked by your vet. especially as it seems to have come up suddenly. Your vet will do an exam, probably a needle aspirate, where they sample some of the cells from inside the bump and look at them under the microscope to help identify what kind of growth it is. Based on those results, your vet will be better able to advise you on how best to treat it or if it needs to be removed surgically.

I would recommend taking Franklin to the vet to have this bump checked out. It could be a benign mass, a histiocytoma, that will self resolve but if it is something more serious, like a mast cell tumor, it should be removed as quickly as possible. You veterinarain can do a cytology of the mass and determine the cell type/origin and this will help determine what next steps need to be taken. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.
