My dog fell, now his butt is inflamed. Is it an anal prolapse?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Butta and for providing a picture, it's very helpful. That looks like it may be an anal prolapse, where a bit of the anus protrudes out. This does need to be checked out by a vet. First thing in the morning, I would take him into the vet. Tonight, just keep n eye on him. I hope this helps!

my dog has a swollen anus. It also appears as almost her flesh is coming off ... she had a lot of poop stuck to it as well. Is that normal or should i take her to the vet?

It is a little difficult to say exactly what is going on with Daisy - she may have a recital prolapse (a condition where some of the tissue in the rectum actually comes out) or chronic irritation if she is scooting on carpeted areas. Scooting may be related to anal gland impactions, infections, or intestinal parasites. I recommend having Daisy seen by a vet as soon as possible because she is likely uncomfortable and the conditions above require treatment. I hope all is well!

Hi, Our 8 week old puppy has a growth in her anus. We need advice on what it is and if we should seek immediate assistance.

That looks like she has an anal prolapse, which is when the anus is displaced outside the body. It will need to be put back into place and the best person to do this is the vet. I do recommend taking her into a vet now. I hope this helps!

My puppies anus looks weak. I haven’t seen the rectum prolapsed like in the pictures I have looked up online. He had strained a few times, but I hadn’t noticed his little anus looked abnormal until I trimmed his hair there.
Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. I unfortunately cannot tell much about how the anus is functioning by looking at a photo. Testing has to be done in person by a vet to see if the sphincter is responding. I do not see a prolapse in this photo. I agree the anal opening looks flaccid but that is all I can say. I strongly recommend you take him to a vet for an exam especially if you think he is straining. At 2 months old he is ready for his first vaccinations anyway and if he has not been dewormed already that needs to be done as well.

My dogs but is red and swollen, he doesn’t scoot. What can it be. I took a photo how can I send it to you
Thank you for providing pictures of Madden's anus for me to see. From the pictures, it could be that he has a rectal prolapse, or he could have impacted anal sacs causing this redness and swelling. The best thing to do is take him into a vet as soon as possible. The vet can diagnose what is causing this redness and swelling, and can treat him for it. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I would recommend taking Snoopy to a vet to assess the extent of the injury. It may regress on its own when the swelling goes down or he might need surgery to keep the tissue inside the rectum. He may also need stool softeners to prevent it from worsening. Our dog had puppies three weeks ago. I kept the puppies on the top level of double-storey home and one of the pups decided to go for a walk. She unfortunately got into a space where there is an opening and she fell to the ground on the ground floor
Your puppy has a prolapsed rectum. The first thing you need to do is put some water on it to moisten it, then put a thick coat of vaseline on the pink area to keep it moist. I am afraid you will need to take this puppy to a vet as the vet will have to reposition the rectum back inside and then make a purse string suture around the anus to keep it from prolapsing again, yet leave enough space for feces to pass. This is a tricky job and easily botched by a lay person. So you should take this puppy to a vet.

I have a beagle, 1yr old. I suddenly saw something is bleeding near her butt. And she cried every time i touch it. I think its swollen but there's blood coming out of it.
Hello. This is most likely an anal gland that became infected & ruptured. It could also be a bite wound, but this is a common presentation of a ruptured anal gland. Summer needs to see her veterinarian to have the area cleaned up & antibiotics will most likely be prescribed. She should heal quickly once treatment is started. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

My puppies butt sticks out quite a bit and protrudes badly when she defecates. I got her at 6 weeks and noticed it. She is now 12 weeks old. She was the runt and seems to have wobbly hips and low muscle tone in her rear end. Is this some type of rect
It does not appear to be a traditional case of rectal prolapse. It could be an issue with the internal rectal muscles, or could be normal for her. I would have Daisy Mae checked out by a vet. They can do a thorough physical and neurologic exams, and x-rays to see if there is a congenital disorder. This will help you plan for her future and possibly start special exercises to strengthen her hind end.

What is wrong with my dog’s anus? Whenever she defecates, it swells and protrudes; a minute later, it will subside and look relatively normal again. I’ll be taking her to the vet tomorrow, but I’d just like to know what to expect.
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! There are a few things that can cause this such as parasites and in uncommon instances cancer such as lymphoma, among other possibilities. Your veterinarian would be able to examine her more closely and see what seems likely so that therapy can be started. Hopefully it is just a case of parasites as it is most of the time. Best of luck!
