My dog licked her spay incision. It's a worsening bump. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 2 years and 4 months old | 19 lbs

Ellie was spayed back at the end of March. She was also in her third trimester (not sure if that even matters) . To me it looks like she licked the incision spot and has a bump from it, but it’s not going away and is looking worse. I want to know if it looks okay or needs something’s.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Ellie. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian. She may have infection or a reaction to the suture used in her surgery. The veterinarian will examine her and determine if oral antibiotics or if another treatment is needed. In the meantime, place an E-collar on her to prevent any further self trauma. I hope this information helps!
